So, you are lucky enough fishing your local stream, to hook three nice fish within the course of the morning. A fresh 'B' steelhead covered with sea-lice, A platinum-plus chromer chinook and a surprisingly fresh Chum Salmon. Each of them weighs exactly 18 lb.s As you reflect back on your morning's success, which fight sticks in your mind and which fish makes you want to get back there even earlier, tomorrow?

Detail Geeks: Using #12max,8-14 Lami,Amb 5500, PinkPearl Corky,#2 Gami, River moderate flow w/ average depth of 6', Sunrise 6;06PT, SW edge of stream , from bank. No alcohol involved.

No drugs either I hope. If I caught the three fish you mentioned above in the course of a morning, I'd almost think I was on drugs and would probally enroll in one of those seven-step programs.

My answer would be the #18 chum, just because I've never had the pleasure of catching one. Caught hundreds of silvers, chinooks and steelhead, but have never even hooked one. Had freinds of mine catch a couple, guess I'm just unlucky I guess.

I would have to agree with Tick - I have caught chum and they can pack a punch. However, any 18lber from the river will do!

Hogtied,

Wow that would be a tuff question. But I would have to go with the the Chum on that set-up that you described. Chums fight the hardest of most fish that I have been around. With this se-up you will not be over powering the fish.

All fresh and 18 lbs., and average fighters for their respective species, I think you would get the wildest fight from the steelhead, the strongest overall fight from the chum, and the tug o'war from the chinook. I would most want to keep the chinook and catch an 18 pound one again the next day because I like eating them the most. However, up their weights 2 pounds to 20 and that changes my preference to getting a 'trophy' class steelhead; only kept if it's a hatchery fish. - RT

I'd go back for the 18lb Steelhead. The Chinook would be fine if not a little small. The Chum's fight like hell, but the river would probably be elbow to elbow both days. A fresh, hot, true 18 lb B run turns my crank! http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Love those airshows!

I'd go for the noookie, unless the steelhead
was a hatchery fish.Good luck,

For a pure brawl it would be the Chummy, but I've gotten quite a few of these, http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

To answer your questions. The fight that would stick most would be the chum. What would make me go back the next morning would be the steelhead.
