Anybody know of any fly tying classes in the area. My son is getting more and more into it and the internet just isn't cutting it any more. He needs more hands on instruction. Thanks

I know River City Fly Shop offers classes. As do many other shops. PCC used offer classes, not so sure about lately.

yep, I took classes from Don at River City. Great teacher. Very patient. It was also an invaluable way to sit and visit with Don and just learn a lot more about fishing from him.

If you're willing to travel to Vancouver (no it's not THAT far), the Clark-Skamania Flyfishers put on fly tying classes every so often. I believe it's only $20 to enroll. They will provide all that's needed.
I took the class about 5 years ago and was very impressed with the amount of one on one time.
Their site is: http://www.clark-skamania-flyfishers.org/

I believe they will hold a beginners fly tying class sometime mid-January.

Cheers!

Another option might be fly tying videos or DVD's..I watched a few of them when I started tying and they really helped show technique an procedures..

I downloaded a program called :"Open Media Network" and they have many online videos. It turns out they also have hours of fly tying shows that are very well produced, from a PBS station. Look for "KWSU: Fly Tying, The Anglers Art" in the title. They cover the basics as well as advanced flies.

The downside is the downloads are very large and you need high speed access. A google search should locate the program.

www.flyanglersonline.com also has a great tying section with tutorials from beginner to advanced.

To follow up on my previous post, here is a list of the program numbers and the flies that they tie while talking about methods and fishing. As I said, the downloads are large, like 280 meg for each half hour show. The video is very clear and well done. I copied the episodes to 4 DVD's so I can have my hard drive back.
