New Mercury 15hp ML 4 stroke on the showroom floor, $2100.00

Burning up the thrust bearing on your pump with 58 hours on it, $1000.00

Installing the new Merc the day before you burn your thrust bearing, F!%#ing Priceless!

Did any of you see me running up the Columbia from the Cowitz to the Nuke tower? I was the guy that had the motor cover up with the smoke billowing out of it. No? You should of seen it, it was hilarious. I was laughing. If you saw it and weren't laughing you should have been. Actually I wasn't laughing at first, it was kind of serious, but after I realized my boat wasn't burning or sinking, I cackled, boy did I cackle. After we figured out what went wrong I told my buddy to fire up that new Merc. He says to me "which way?" as he's pointing toward the Nuke tower. I say "other frick'n way, we're going home".
What a crapper. The only good thing about the whole deal was that I got to break in my new kicker on the way back to the ramp.

Marked some smelt, but had no luck getting any of the little ******** into a net. I'm thinking my fish finder has to have the screen black with fish before the net thing works. Ran into Ramstrong, he was fishless also. Nice to meet you Ram. Hope the whole smelt thing holds off for a couple of weeks until I can get my horse back.

That's a nice price on that Merc kicker. Where did you find that? I am in the market for a 9.9. Thanks!

NorRivDave - If your going to fix it yourself and don't want to put out the money for a manuel email me. Thought I burnt up my thrust bearing once but had sucked a bungee cord into my universal...Didn't get it figured out untill my pump was in three pieces....

ZaQ, it might be too late, but when I bought my 9.9 Merc I bought it in February of 2000, 1999 model. The dealer was clearing his inventory to make room for the 2,000's. Got a great deal at 1598.00 plus tax. Check out the dealers in your area. Finally was in the right place at the right time.

Good luck

NorRivDave,
Doesn't the service at the North River outlet bite. My buddy (whose boat I was in Saturday) had the impeller blades of his jet fall apart, as well as having the cable to his reverse bucket kink. Service was less than par on both of these issues. Plus his trailer is rated right at his boat weight, when he asked about this and tried to get a 2 axle trailer they said no, you can buy one though. When he didn't want to buy one, they initially agreed to give him a spare. then they changed their mind about that. For awhile there we were thinking about removing everything that says northriver from the boat. But I don't think he's going to do that. BTW he has the same pump as you NRD, Marine Power was pretty quick about sending him the replacement impeller blades, and the new ones have worked great since. Bad batch I guess.
North River, great boat, service bites.

Ram, this is the first issue I have had with them. Mike's a pretty cool guy and I know he runs just about everything that he's not totally sure of through his boss in Roseburg before he commits. The thing is NorthRiver puts these units together, so if it's not a maintenance issue then it's an installation issue, I would think. I know they don't want to eat it, but I don't want to either. I'm not going to bad mouth them before I give them a chance. I've been talking to him about a bigger boat, so maybe he'll consider that another sale is worth the cost no matter what the reason for failure was. It would be pretty hard for me to trade up if they aren't going to take care of this issue.

Ram - Nor- That kind of service isn't unique to North River. My buddy bought a brand new Duck in 93 and they drilled the hole for the radio antena to big and it always loosened up and leaked. They also mounted the passenger seat to close to the side and wore the hole in the viynal(sp) within a week..They also put trailers under em that are rated right at the boat weight...Still a good boat though. Just bad management(Perry)

Z, I bought the kicker form Steven's Marine
BWB, It's a X-Sream 3-stage from Marine Power. North River told me that it was because of lack of grease, but I beg to differ with that arguement. I've always taken meticulous care of everything I've every owned, and I know it wasn't a maintenance issue.
Barn, thanks for the offer, but I don't have the time to fix it myself. Beside I feel it should be covered under warranty, it's only 7 months old.
