After a terrible weekend of crabbing in the Siletz bay I am ready to try somewhere new. I wonder if anyone could tell me how to get to Netarts bay from Salem or Portland and where a boat ramp is to put in at? Also if you have any helpful hints on which way to go from the ramp I would appreciate it.

A map will solve your problem with finding the bay. But basically it is about 15 miles west of Tillamook. There is only one boat ramp and it is near the North end of the bay in front of the Schooner Tavern. The boat ramp is off the main road to the left just before you get to the metropolis downtown of Netarts. When you launch you can crab either direction. Most people go up the bay (to the left). Not far out of the harbor (1/4 mile) people will crab right along the road. The Channel up the bay is a big "S" curve shape. It is a shallow bay and people will crab up the channel for a couple miles.
You can also crab to the right from the boat ramp. It isnt far from the ramp to the ocean. No jetties exist and the waters can be quite dangerous near the bar.

Grits, map helps, but just take 3rd street out of Tillamook and follow the signs. If the tides are really soft I generally go up the bay and sometimes out in the flats as you approach high slack. I seldom go above the channel for the marina located in the mid bay. Otherwise I go towards the ocean from the ramp and start just arround the corner. Have has much success all the way down towards the surf. JUST BE CAREFUL and watch the tides. Once it changes and starts comming in it can get nasty down there.
