I am sorry if my intentions to fish on the coast this weekend seems alittle insensative due to the devistation they have had due to the rain but I had plans to travel to the Kilches for Chum Salmon this Sunday for months. I was hoping that some of you may know the current conditions there and if it would even be possible to get into some fish due to the huge amounts of rain that have fallen and the amounts that are forecasted? THanks in advance for the help. ERIK

I heard that it is VERY high right now. I believe the levels are expected to drop though.

While there is no river gauge on the Kilchis/Miami Rivers, the gauge on the Trask shows it is no longer dropping. The current storms have actually caused it to go up a little.
Of more importance are the road conditions. You may not be able to drive to Tillamook without taking a long detour.:frown:

With the storm that is predicted to hit on Sunday, I would not want to be anywhere near river. The river will be on the rise on sunday and unfishable:confused:

THanks all on the info from the coast. I hope that if you are all there that your homes are safe and that you are as well. Perhaps another fall I will have to travel to the Kilches for some Oregon Chum fishing. Thanks again, ERIK

I made a circuit of North Coast streams on Saturday looking for fishable water, either bobber or fly fishing.
N.F. Nehalem looked ugly in the pre-dawn light, high, muddy and fast, and still above the level of the handicap dock.
The Kilchis was off-color and high, but looked fishable. The water was within the banks at the logging bridge, but the gravel bar was well below the water level. There were a few chum rolling. I bobber-fished and got no hits.
The Trask and Wilson were high, fast and muddy.
The Tillamook River looked pretty good from the handicap platform, though the flow in from the channel from the Trask was very cloudy. I ran my bobber through some of the clearer Tillamook water, but no hits.
The Miami was the clearest, though still less than a foot of visibility. The chum were in, with some fly and gear fishers below the Moss Creek bridge. A couple of the fly fishers seemed to be dialed in and hooked a half dozen in the hour I was there, just before dark. Some were hooked in the mouth, and some not. I never got a hit.
The roads were all open at that time, though Highway 6 closed again this morning from downed trees.
Th Th That's all, Folks!
