Darryl has just started a brutal Chemo regimen, and i just ask that you pray for him. He's prepared and ready for the fight of his life, and if anyone can do it, it's Him......May the Lord be by his side. Thank You,

In April, 2006, Darryl noticed a tumor on his neck just below his ear. After seeing an ENT it was determined the tumor was in the parotid gland and he had surgery just before Memorial Day to remove the gland and the tumor. The pathology report came back the following week and showed that it was a non Hodgkin, type B cell lymphoma called Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL). It is a very rare and aggressive form of lymphoma that strikes men more often than women.
Throughout the summer, Darryl had additional tests, scans, and biopsies and it was determined that the MCL was present in his bone marrow and lower intestines, but was not active at the time and no other MCL tumors were present. It was termed "indolent" and would be monitored with blood tests and scans on a six week basis.
In September, Darryl's blood tests were negative, but his CT scan showed there were tumors near his lower intestines and there was metabolic activity in his neck.
The recommended course of treatment consists of 8 sessions of an aggressive form of chemo therapy where Darryl will be in the hospital 3-5 days and then out for a couple of weeks to let his blood counts come back up before going for the next session.
The past week Darryl has been getting tests to establish baselines before starting treatment. There has been no significant change in the size or number of tumors in the last 6 weeks.
Darryl will start treatment on November 7. In preparation he had his son, Craig, shave his head. His attitude has remained positive and he's ready for the fight. He is overwhelmed by the incredible show of support from family and friends and wants everyone to know that your thoughts and prayers are doing as much to aid in his recovery as anything.
