Don't know where you live but River City Fly Shop would be my recommendation for a Rio quad tip set up.

I agree with Peter, the Rio multi tip is a good one. I have used them for about 5 years now with no problems. tight lines, brian

Ok,
Fer what its worth. That rod should be overlined by one or you should pick a line with a very large front taper.
Now that we got that out of the way, How do you fish?
Are yah throwing nymphs under an indicator, or are you a planning on doing more swinging?
So If you are planning on doing the Indicator thing (which I completly support and reccomend as it is much more fun than swinging :D)
I'd pick the SA clouser or nymph line in either a WF8 or WF9. This is a great line for in close fishing. It loads easily and casts great.
I would NOT go with a change a tip line as my only line. They suck for nymphing. Get the floater on one spool, then get a change a tip for swinging set up on another spool. Trust me, you will be much happier.
SA makes a pretty good change a tip line btw.
just my couple of pesos.

hmm well i havent been into flyfishing long enough to know what that is. lol
all i know is im gonna be fishing rivers for steelhead. fishing super shallow to super deep. throwing all the big and smaller steelhead flys i can get my hands on.
right now i have a floating line and and i also had a sinktip line. but i dont want to spend90 dollars for an extra spool for my reel wheni can just get the multi tip line then use a 15' section of floating line off of another line as a floating tip.
thats what my buddy did and he luvs it. i just dont know which multi tip line i should get. i've heard mixed reports on the rio. so im gonna stear clear of it.
i didnt know sa made multi tip line. but i'll look into it.
what about yancy?? or cortland??
thanks alot for all the info

I have both RIO and Airflo multi tip lines and like both brands. I also had a SA line and would recommend against that brand because I did not like the loops.
I don't know what complaint your friend had against the RIO line, but I have caught hundreds of fish with my RIO lines and have had great service from them.

all he told me is that its crap...the line doesnt flow threw guides guides good at all. and the connection from line and tips was not the best.
idk im gonna go check out the rio. cause everyone is saying its good. plus its cheaper then the other :) and hey if i dont like it oh well right. i can always replace it.

Ok,
This is my suggestion:
1. go out and get a SA Mastery series WF8F or WF9F line on one spool.
2. go out and get a multi tip line on another spool. SA's is good, so is Airflo's.
The reason that I don't recommend that you just get the multi tip line is because it handles both floating lines presentations and sinking tip presentations ok, but it doesn't do both "well".
Think of a multi-tip line as the leatherman tool of fly lines. A leatherman has a plier, screwdrivers, a pair of scissors, and in a pinch can perform the job, but if you really needed a screwdriver, you'd go get a screwdriver.
You are going to use the floating line WAY more than the tips, so I'd make sure you have a floater. The multi tip is fine for handling the tips.
That will do you for steelheading both indicator fishing and swinging.

yea i already have a reel with 2 spools, one is flaoting and the other is a sink tip.
but thats one reel. i need the multi tip for my other rod and reel.
all i want is for it to get the job done through this winter run season. im new to fly fishing and trust me if i have to sit and switch out spools all day long to fish the different holes i fish i will loose all interest in fly fishing in about a week.
heck with all this high water ive already lost enough interest. ive spent 500 dollars on this stuff to go fishing and ive only been able to go 2 times in the last 2 weeks. its a bummer,
so that is the reason i want a multi tip line. it will make things easier for me.
when gear fishing i have 3 rods i take at all time. one for drifting, one for spoons, and one for float fishing. i switch maybe 5 times in one hole.
now having to sit and switch spools that many time in one hole will get very very tiring and will make most people loose interest.
it will be far easier to just switch tips. now if i decide to take my other rod, which i highly dout. i can have that rod set up with myflaoting line. or a sink tip depending on the hole i will be fishing.
trust me ive done one heck of alot of reading up on fly fishing. i know most of the techniques. although i ahev not practiced them.
i know how i want to fish and what i need to do that. i know that in certain cases i will need and definatly wanta floating line.
but i just need info on multi tip lines. i dont care about all the other line.
ive tried flaoting line, and a sink tip. i know how both cast for the most part. i know that not all sink tips and flaoting lines cast the same. but they are all simular to a certain extent.
anyway i'm just looking for a multi tip line. my choices are rio, and cortland. those are the ones that are redily available to me right now.
i would much rather use yancy line. but i have no way in ordering it and dont know of any stroe that carry's it

Don't know where you live but River City Fly Shop would be my recommendation for a Rio quad tip set up.
For what it's worth, Don at river city doesn't carry Rio, but he does have the AirFlo lines. IMO the AirFlo is comparable to the Rio, plus it's got a 5 year warranty.

--don't discount making your own.
--You could use a heavy WT forward dry line
--cut it back to beginning of taper and apply a loop to both, this gives you the floating line.
--We take a heavy sink 30 foot and cut it into 15,10 &5 ft lengths and apply loops.
--different loop systems hinge but if throwing like a heavy weight forward not the fanciest cast anyway.
--I find commercial loops and tips Never the correct lenght and weight for specialty areas we fish.
--Even if you're not an expert always fun to make your own gear.
--I'm sure you make all kinds of mods to your casting tackle so apply the same to your fly gear.
--If you go with a commercial system obvious you can still add different length's and sink rates with your own add ons
