Old dog

This past Wednesday, Nov. 1st, I spent about 2 hours at the Little Nestucca tidewater wearing out my right arm while casting my 10 wt. Reddington from the bank. At the same time, I observed 4 spey rod casters hooking lots of chinook (both from shore and in their drift boats) - 3 bright salmon landed that I saw, and 2 released. I didn't want to butt in on them or pester them for details or secrets, but one of them said they were using purple. I tried several steelhead and salmon flies, but didn't touch a thing.
If any of you 4 read this post, could you please answer 2 questions: What were the best fly patterns, and what pound test were your leaders? I'd sure appreciate these tips, thanks.
