I just have to say something that has been on my mind, and I want to know how you guys feel about it.

I absolutely adore all the pics on the challenges and contests. I have stopped myself a multitude of times, before I hit send on a compliment, or an "ooh" or "ahh" regarding one of these gorgeous pictures, because of the rules that state, "no comments".

Why can't we comment on these threads? I just have to know why. I know it makes it a little more difficult to sort through... but don't folks like to hear that their fish are beautiful? Doesn't it seem unfriendly and kind of mean not to allow someone to compliment a fellow fisher?

How do you feel about that rule? Why is it in place?

The other thing... I care about alot, and I'm going to have to play the bad guy and insist on a change. I understand having a trading post, but according to ifish rules, if you are going to sell things, just like on the other forums, it has to go on the classified ads.

Ifish doesn't allow pointers to the class ads, and we don't allow sales on the individual forums.

One last note: I hope that you can all make it to the ifish Christmas party. I hope that you voted in the poll, pinned to the top of the forum on the main ifish community. This is an event where I'd like everyone to be involved for both ifish's sake, and most of all, the kid's sake! Please! I want to meet all of you and wish you a Merry Christmas!

That said, I've really been enjoying reading the forum over here, lately and I appreciate all of your input and conversations. I have learned so much from all of you!

The problem is lots of congratulatory comments and the postings get lost!

What I like to do is make a separate post (most of the time) and then post the photo in the contest post.

I personally don't have any heartburn either way. Since this website is for all the participating flyfishermen, maybe we should have a poll?

I am with Andy on this. I like the thread to just have the picture and comments by the poster. If comments by others are allowed there are just to many "atta-boy" posts to read thru on the challenge thread.

It would be great if the poster would start another thread with the picture again and additional comments they might want to add. That would allow responses by those with questions and other issues they might want to discuss like flies and presentations etc.

It's great to hear feedback, but I think that as Andy and PTS said it gets in the way. The threads are a lot easier to scan through without the comments.

Is there a "message board program" option, method, or plug-in for having a thread clone itself, so users could add comments to the clone? More fun, and everybody wins! :yay:

Hi there--
No, there isn't such a thing while the thread is being made. You'd have to come do it at the end. There is that. But, to make it build two threads... no.

I still don't think that there would be THAT many congrats posts to have it a big deal. I do them all the time on the main board. (There are tons of people, there.) and I don't have any trouble.

But, I'll leave it this way if the majority thinks so. I just find it... oh, I don't know... kind of dry. :)

I've been out of town for a few days. I think the problem with not being able to post an "atta boy" in reply to the great pics is that who does it? Guys go out and catch a great fish, post it, and never gets to hear what everybody thinks of it. I know that I look and think WOW but I don't feel like starting a new thread on every pic that gets posted. If a new thread did get started then we have to go back, look and see who's fish it was and yada, yada, yada. I think it just makes things flow a little better in just one thread. Just my :twocents: .

If someone is really wanting to comment on a persons fish, and there worried about "the postings getting lost", they can private message them. Its also more personal that way.:twocents:
