Whats the diff between a spey and a fly rod?

They are both fly rods..
Spey rods are great for casting all day because you dont have to hold your arm up.
I prefer to fight fish the ole fashioned way with a one handed shorter rod though.
Neither is better or worse it is all just opinion.

As mentioned above...they are both fly rods. A spey rod is cast using both hands gripping the rod, instead of just one hand. Spey casts are performed with most of the line on the water as opposed to most of the line in the air. The closest thing I can relate it to would be a roll cast using a single hand rod. Just do a google search on spey casting and you'll likely find some video clips which will demostrate the different types of spey casting. The main advantages to spey casting are you dont need as much space behind you to cast, you have better line control with the longer rod, and it is less tiresome.

also, spey rods are generally longer..your average single handed rod is 7-9ish feet, while most spey rods are in the 12-15 foot range

Spey casting is very Zen....Very addicting.....and don't let anyone fool you...it's easier too. And there aint nothing wrong with easier...
