If you have some more "scraps", I'll take one, that is a piece of art, and functional to boot. Good work!

My tying desk that I converted an old sewing desk into, closed and clean. I also have a few drawings of flies my girlfriend drew up for me.

Open the top and the vice and tools pop right into place. Even have my laptop setup for finding fly patterns.

It already had holes for my tools and that nice cutout for my vice. I used a magnet that came with some hooks to hold the hooks I will be using and an old fly box to hold flies to dry.

Open the cabinet doors and wallah!

Thread holder and pockets for chenille and extra tools

My organized bins for $.79 at Walmart.

And a recipe box with labels for fly and bead organization.

Very nice! you have some talent for woodworking. thanks for posting. fly tying is a hoppy all on it's own and a good functional work area makes it all the more fun. in our house we have what we call the "fly tying room". one of those roll top desk would look great in it.

I love the custom roll top. That's truly a thing of beauty. I'll trade you! I just have this old library catalog for my fly tying materials. The Ezra Brooks box holds my #1 necks and works as a laptop tying table. There are shelves that pull out from the card catalog.

Steven,

Very nice. If you made that from "scraps" what you could do with regular wood would have to be truly awesome.

NCL.. thank you ..it actually took longer to clean up the scraps and smoothen ...rip.. plane and figure how to use such 'unusable scraps " than it did to actually cut dovetails and make solid panels...

Each drawer is dovetailed joinery...everything is solid "raised" panels made of jointed pieces..there are 2 "breadboard slideouts" for extra work space.. the rolltop works and locks...its made to come apart IF I ever move...it has a built in "LITTLE LITE" completely hidden and it has a brass ring-opening in the back of the work desk top to brush scraps/feathers down into the back of a drawer to be vacumed out once a month so no feathers or scrap bag..

Every edge is "lamb tongue finished " the photo doesnt do the rich antique cherry finish justice and finally sprayed laquer finish over everything.

All hardware is solid brass from England via Lee Valley Tools..

Working on and off between fulltime career as a trauma Paramedic and hunting fishing and life it took 11 months.......and holds a life time of fur -feathers -thread etc...

I will take some of my 'secret " drawer designs and post...

Wow! Srupp - nice piece of furniture. Just think of how many flies you could have tied during the time it took you to make that! ;) I say that with as much envy as I can muster. :)

You guys are way too neat and tidy.. I have a plastic mail tub that holds all my fly tying gear sitting on a desk out in the garage.
