View Full Version : Crooked River
Any reports on how the fishing is. I am going over in one week..... Or should I hit another river for the day. I am staying at Eagle Crest. Taking the golf clubs to but would rather fish one of the days.... Thanks for any reports.

it's really low right now. really low. some fish caught. weeds are taking over so nymphing can be a problem. Dry fly can work sometimes but these fish are spooky since the water level dropped about 100 cfs in ONE DAY! Don't know if it'll drop any more... there's a rumour going around that the water people are doing some work & it WILL drop again...
check levels or try the Middle DesChutes (better chances for nice water).
Later,
Peter
Thanks for the info........ I have never fished the middle Deschutes.... what area is that? Any help would be great...

walked down to look at the water on the Deshutes near Redmond and watched a guy catch 6 fish in a matter of 15 minutes. this was last weekend.

Just walk down to the river from the resort. Lots of good water in that area and trails along the river. I haven't fished it this time of year, so check with the local fly shops to see what's working.
Wow, I don't think I have ever seen the Crooked at 50CFS... Looks like I might try the Middel D for the first time......

Talk to Jeff Perin at the Fly Fisher's Place in Sisters. He'll get you sorted on flies and location for the Middle Deschutes.
At Eagle Crest, you're in a pretty central location, just an hour and a half drive you can fish the Lower Deschutes at Mecca (Warm Springs). We caught six steelhead and a bunch of redsides on that stretch last weekend.
You can also head to the Metolious from where you are staying. It's that time of year to catch big dollies in the gorge section of the river.

Matt K, Thanks for the info. I sent a message to my buddy stating that we were going to stop in Sisters and chat with them. Great minds think alike I guess.
