Yesterday, a neighboring boat gave us the lowdown on a remote control - NautiMatic - for your trolling motor. We understand its made in Newport. Its remote throttle control is what really intrigues us.
Anyone have any feedback or impressions on this. Is it worth the $1500 (or so were told) investment.

I would have to say that it's worth it . Will keep you in out of the cold can be hooked up to your gps to follow a pre set way point we use it in lakes and rivers and troll back and forth when we get fish on we temp way point fish then connect the dots and it's fish on also does compass headings remote speed control you can get a trolling tach.think of this as a investment it will make fishing a lot more fun.

Hey Garyk, I have one of those Nautimatic TR-1 remote control auto pilot's. I don't know how I ever fished without it all of these years, It's nice most of the time. Cons: You won't want to use it around crouds (not responsive enough) I'd rather have the tiller in my hand. Pros: You can point the boat in the direction you want to go and it will compensate for wave action, and wind. If you have a 4 stroke outboard you can add the throttle control (that's sweet), If you have a 2 stroke you can not. I have a 22 ft sled with a windshield and top and you know how your boat will blow around at certain parts of the tide when anchored. What I do is put my outboard in reverse, set the auto pilot in reverse compass coarse, give it a little throttle and pull back on the anchor. You can't fight mother nature all the way with this, but it does help hold you straight when gator fishing. For trolling I would say I use mine most of the time, you can push a button to either go port or starboard. What I really like is if you have to bait a hook you can do so, and your trolling motor won't turn to one side or the other. They have there place just like any other toy, but I'm spoiled now and I won't leave home without it. I have had some trouble with mine, but the service that Nautimatic has given me was out of this world. I hope this helps........Bobber Down

RKB & Bobber Down --Thank you very much for the detailed response.
If I can ask a followup question(s) -- Did you each do the installation of the unit or did you have the Nautimatic do it?
And if you don't mind sharing -- what did the final bottom line price come to, after everything was said, done, and installed?
Thanks again!

If you just want throttle control Nautimatic will sell that separate. I wanted to put it on a bigger 4 stroke (I troll with my main engine) but wouldn't work. I ended up feeding an extra throttle control cable with a vernier style head to the engine just to make fine adjustments to the idle speed (60 bucks)
