Fished out of Ilwaco today. We went on past buoy 10 out into the ocean. First fish on was a 20+ lb Chinook and the boat was limited by 10:15 AM...mostly Silvers.

I second that!! Went to the drop off west of the last green buoy, drops from 85 to 150 foot real quick. Water was 59 degrees and the silvers were finning and splashing at baitfish. We got lines wet at 07:00 and quit with a limit of seven pounders at 07:45. The crab hole below Cape Disappointment gave up 2 limits of barnacle bill crabs and we were on the way home by 14:00. The crowd around B-10 was thin by 10:00. Nobody likes fishing the Ebb tide. Lots of boats at B-10 at daylight but they were gone by 10:00. Hard to go wrong on the ocean when there are so many fish. Every thing we threw in the water worked within a minute or two. I live for days like that. The bend is your friend.

I Saw your post and it brought back memories of several years ago when my dad and I would go down to Ilwaco and fish off of the jetty for salmon. Do they still do this? We would use a big float, 4 oz. of lead, 4 feet of leader and a cut hearing. we did real good there.

Is this still a fishery? I haven't done this for about 13 years or so. I thought I might get my daughter started down there.

Thanks for any info.

Pilar glad to here you did so good. I'm new to bouy 10 fishing and if you don't mind helping the ocean challenged where is the last green bouy and how far out.

P.S. this board is such a pleasure to read leave the spear throwing to the other board.
Thanks RON

Hey RKB! Yeah ,no problem. When I get to the boat this Eve I'll jot down the GPS numbers stored in the fish TV. Then I'll post them for you. If you have a chart, look at the area northwest of the Green #1(I think thats the #) buoy. They dump dredge spoils there. The deal is the large wasteland area on the bottom in this location. Its flat at about 85ft. It gives a contrast to the deeper water west and south of Green #1 at 150 to 170 ft. I think this does something for the bait fish and thier food supply. In any case there are always Coho salmon on the bite here along the drop off. The best part is that you only get 7 miles from buoy 10. Compare that with 10 to 12 miles out in the deep water south and west of the CR buoy. Not a good thing to run north into the wind when you come home. I'd rather run northeast and take a lesser beating. Check me later for the numbers, I'm happy to share. The bend is your friend!

Geez Pilar, this thread had me really going until I read the dates on the posts images/icons/shocked.gif . I was thinking, isn't the opener the 1st? Am I missing out? Cr*p! ... Then, whew. images/icons/wink.gif ...

I am going out on the opener with Dan and friends and sure hope the feesh are there and biting big time? Give us a shout if you are out there and see us (22' Searay).

I'm up early because someone wrote that the early worm gets the bird or the fish. Hey, whatdayaknow it's true - and I didn't even have to leave the house images/icons/grin.gif .
