View Full Version : Where is everyone's fishing report from today?
O.K. I know that Barnyard, Pilar, Slutgoddess and I were out fishing today, where are your reports??? Here is mine! Fished the Wilson and had a great day. Beautiful water (a little low), sunshine, mountain view and the company of a good dog. (that was before he rolled in cow *****). Oh, and I didn't catch any fish, but neither did anyone else. Talked to a couple of my local bankies, Vern says the steelies aren't up in his creek yet. That is a good thing, at least they haven't shot by us.... Hope my sturgeon buddies caught fish, but I bet I smiled more than you guys. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY! Life is to short to have a bad fishing day, even if you didn't catch fish. I fished the NF Alsea yesterday morning (12/31). I threw everything I had and couldn't even get a nibble. The water was very low and clear so I imagine the fish were extra-spooky. Saw a bunch of dark chinook and one dark steelhead.
Gave the lower Alsea a try this morning (1/1) and managed another skunk. Fished hard with drift gear as well as bobber & eggs. There were about 8 other guys in the same area and I didn't see anything hooked. Conditions seemed ok but the fish were missing.... or just not in the biting mood.
My buddy and I are going to be fishing hard for the next 3 days but haven't figured out where. Any ideas would be appreciated. GO BEAVERS!

I floated the Sandy today for the first time. Put in at Oxbow at 6:30 AM and took at at Dabney. It was one cold, windy boat ride, I froze my a$$ off. Couldnt feel my feet for about the last half of the boat ride. I did stumble into a hatchery steelhead. My religion doesnt allow me to let them go when the tag is not in danger of punching out. On 1/1/01, the tag is pretty clean so the fish only got its head and guts released, the rest was retained and will meet mr. smoker tomorrow.

RW, I happen to know that one of the boats you mentioned had a keeper in it. I was going to try and squeeze the sled in near him, but after seeing what appeared to be 2 or 3 crossed up anchor ropes we steered clear. If you have never watched somebody hook and reel in a gator to the tune of "ride of the valkyries", you've never sturgeon fished. We boated a dozen or so shakers up to 39" but no keeps.

Fished the Nestucca above First bridge Saturday and Monday. Saturday my buddy hooked and landed a native on bobber jig and lost another one. Monday my 9 year old son got a native on a bait diver. Had a few missed take downs both days and caught some really nice cutthroat. Both days the weather and water conditions were absolutely perfect. Two great days but, WHERE ARE THE HATCHERY FISH?????????????

Hey Joe, Now I have a face to go with Salmonator. There are still plenty of fish marking on the sonar but....I think the sturgeon are scared. Or all have sore faces. Many came in Monday tail first. This only happens when the hole is real crowded with fish. Maybe they are gathering for the pending smelt feast. The bite is off and the fishing is slow.
We boated 3 legal fish and kept the biggest one at 42.5". Phunybonz took his first keeper home to feed the family. May that be the first of many more Tony.
As far as Wagner played loud, Oh well! We try to have fun and the 'Ride of the Valkyries' is part of the deal. Normally this is playing as we cross a rough bar with our hair on fire and waves breaking over the bow!
Thanks to all the new Ifish friends I shared a bent rod with over the holiday. Barnyard, 4u2fish, RW, Jughead, Salmonator, Phunybonz, all you guys and gals rock! It never stops amazing me how people with such diverse interests can share this thing we call fishing.
The bend is your friend!

12/31, snagged & released a CARP on the Clackamas above the railroad bridge. Pretty exciting for half a minute there, had him by the tail ...
Water very clear, quite a few anglers in the morning - by 11:30 most had packed it in. Didn't see any fish caught, talked to a guy who was up around Carver & said there was a boat with a couple of small-ish fish.

Hey Joe! No knock taken. Your entertainment is a bonus, I figure. Some people just hate opera. I guess they haven't lived enough or something. Sturgeon are hard to spook so we listen to whatever we got.
The bend is your friend!
You guys are great!!! I had such fun reading your fishing reports. Salmonator, I have fished with Pilar before. Opera grows on ya, Barnyard and I were flipping him ***** about his choice of music. Don't tell Pilar I said this, but I have seen Les' Miserable and loved every moment of it... Tight lines, RW

I joined the crowds on the Wilson Sunday and found two mint bright hatchery hens, They looked so nice I decided to keep them. I went out again on the Wilson this morning and hooked into two more. One was a beautiful native hen that went nuts for several minutes before I eased her in for a quick release. I got all my fish on jigs. The water looked great.
