I'm goin out Bassin, for the very first time, with my kids next Thursday as there is no school and I have comp time. I gathered up the lures you all reccomended and am gonna give it a try. I realize and respect that no one wants to give the location of their favorite hole but have scouted out a few possibilities. Will be puttin in at Willamatte park and my question is this. Can I fish the lagoon in Ross Island? I plan on trying around the floating restroom on east side of ross island and a few other areas. Any clues apreciated. Feel free to send me a private E-mail if you like. Come on folks, toss me a bone. Does Bass fishin in this location fall off with the cooler temps that come with Fall or ? Would I be better off runnin down stream to the channel ?

Your actually hitting it at a really good time, and no you dont want to go down toward the main channel. You could go down river just a little and fish around the I-5 bridge in downtown portland and the bank near the submarine is usually good for a few fish, plus your kids will like the scenery there. Aside from that I would recommend going up toward the falls if it was me. Choose any rocky area with a current break of some sort and throw crankbaits at it. I dont know how old your kids are or how proficient they are with casting, but you should be able to just go down the bank and keep them busy firing crankbaits and have a pretty good day. You might not catch the biggest fish in the river with that approach, but it will keep them busy casting and you will probably catch more fish the more water you cover. If you start getting into them, you might slow down a little and try a grub or tube. I have been fishing the main Columbia of late from St Helens down to Portland and have not done well at all, so I think you would be better off to stay in the Willamette. There are certain spots right around Willamette park that can be very productive. Good luck.
