Has anyone fished Hills Creek or Ben Irving lately? Was thinking of starting at Hills creek tomorrow. Haven't fished it this year, are the crappie of size? If that doesn't work I'll head south and try Ben Irving for whatever I can catch. Thanks.

I haven't been to Ben Irving lately but it is usually pretty good for numbers in the fall. It probably doesn't matter what you use as long as its a jig

Ben Irving? Isn`t that the lake out in Olalla? (SP), out of Winston. If it is I remember the Umpqua Valley Bass Club went out there before they filled it and tied down a bunch of timber and stumps. I think I still remember where some of them are. I know that there is a huge pile next to the boat ramp in that little cove on the left. Sorry Knot in Leader if I gave away your hot spot!

Your right that is a hot spot with a pile of logs a brush in that cove. Down by the caretakers place is a bunch of stumps and piles that were made. The water is probably low enough so you can see most of them. Also there is a rock pile that is always good and is marked with a sign on it.
You got me thinking maybe I should go fishing again.

Thanks alot you guys! I think I might skip Hills Creek and head straight to Ben Irving. I have to say I did outstanding there last fall. The only thing that sucks is I haven't found anywhere near to camp. My topo. shows one west of there but I've never been able to find it!

I can't think of anywhere to camp either. The town of Winston has several RV parks and the Wildlife safari has a camp ground (RV) park. You would only be about 1/2 hour away. Good Luck

And then there is always Seven Feathers... if you fill the boat with gas FIRST!
