Hey everyone-

I live in Albany and I was wondering if there are any good pieces of water in this area to fish for crappie?? Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The crappie have been hitting at Cottage Grove Res. up by the dam. I hear that Hills Creek Res. is the same story.

I never fished them while living down there.
But there are crappie in Fern Ridge Resevior and the Long Tom river which flows from it.

You can also try some of the sloughs along the willamete, bout the only thing I caught there was perch and pikeminnows.

Lastly, there are the freeway lakes to the south of Albany right under I-5, I never fished them, but according to the fishing in Oregon book they should have crappie.

From my own experience and those fishing at Fern Ridge, the crappie are minnows this year. I wouldn't mind hearing from someone that has found them there but the only ones I could find were tiny. I think it will take a year or two for Fern Ridge to recover from the drain/repairs to the dam.

...and there is still the mercury problem with Cottage Grove Res. and Dorena. If you eat fish from these waters it could cause you to be very ill.

Tons of Crappie in Walter Wirth lake and Bluegill lake at the Cascades Gateway Park in South Salem. Also quite a few in the St Louis Ponds outside of Woodburn.
