YES I'M YELLING!
Ok- now I'm done. No fishing buddies for trout fishing tomorrow. Consider this an open seat offer or just to meet with other Ifishers, fishing any lake 3 hrs. from Portland. I'll drive there Fri. nite if neccessary to be there at daybreak Sat. morning.
Possibilities: Haag, Detroit, Fall Cr., Green Peter, Fall Cr, Billy Chinook, Ochocco?????? somebody name a lake they're going fishing? :jester: Jim

Where are you off to...? I have never fished up there, would like to, I hear good things about Detroit - but I don't even know where it is. Tight lines and fish on.

After much himming and hawwing I decided at the last minute as I pulled out of the driveway Fri. nite to go back up to Swift.(hour and a half east of Woodland, WA).
Got to the ramp at dark (NOBODY else there!) and launched off into the dark water. I bought a lighted Qwikfish that I wanted to try before I hit the hay. Trolled around for about 2hrs. with it at 30ft. on the downrigger. One arrogant 12inch trout actually hit that 4inch qwikfish!
Had two other hits and misses- that was it. Anchored next to shore out of the wind and slept on the floor of the boat-all was quiet except for the lapping of the waves from the slight breeze coming up the lake.
At daybreak I realized 2 things. One I had the propane, the burner, the thermos, the cup, the ground coffe, the water, BUT where's the COFFEE POT you moron!!???? And two - I had better get busy because I ran my mouth off about some pictures and now I was wondering how dumb that might have been
Well first thing I saw was this:

OK- so will this be a scenery photo show?
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/autumn.jpg
Will I only have the mandatory- I saw this and I saw that?
(i.e.- loser can't catch a fish? :help:)
What's this?- is it a freshwater starfish?.....or a laketopus?

OR just some peas in a pod type trout shots?

At least they were fish pics!!! :yay:
I trolled from the ramp all the way to the dam, zig-zagging back and forth across the lake. I had never seen all of the lake before- flew to the other end and back once but never explored the path between. Caught fish here and there- sometimes went an hour with nothing biting. Then would hit a school of fish apparently and catch 3 or four in five minutes. Five hours later  and finally near the dam(only caught 20 fish to this point), I dropped the downriggeerr to 40ft because I saw a bunch of fish on the screen around that depth. When I turned my back to adjust the motor speed up a tad, my reel began to scream at me "pay attention!"
By the time I grabbed my rod out of the holder the fish was jumping behind the boat- ahhhhh- maybe this could be the photo-op I've been looking for? Despite that jinxing, bad karma type thought- it came to the net!

18 inch cutthroat saves the day! :yay: :yay:
Here's the chunks of metal that were the true heros out there- let's give'm a nice round of applause

Ended up with a total of 37 trout (all released), likely could've doubled that if I had stayed closer to the ramp where I knew the fish were but then.........this might have been a different sounding story :jester:
The day ended kinda like it started......

Jim, nice report and some beautiful Trout. Sorry about the coffee pot, at least you remembered the camera....nice work with the down rigger. I am still trying to get up to speed with mine. Don't you just love Cutthroats, the spots - amazing fish. Glad you had a good time, and your karma must not have been that bad ...We still on for the 14th at Fall Creek ? Talk to you later.

Lentz- all by myself. Sounds like a song......
At one point I was sleepy so I got to the middle of the lake with a slight breeze blowing uplake and I put on a flatfish down 40ft. that would work at a slow speed.
I turned off the motor and wind drifted. Then I set the depth alarm on the F.F. to 45 ft. and laid down and took a nap! A while later I woke with a start to beep beep beep beep! Wind eventually blew me to shore. No fish though.
Troutski- I just had a sinking feeling thought that I had previously forgot about. I think wife has me going to Baker City this weekend  I will check with her when I get home from work today and will let you know tonight at the latest. aaarrrghh! Jim

Jim, No problem of the date, we can make it another time. The fish don't care what day we go. Gotta take care of those honey-does. Take care and talk to you later.
