Has anyone seen or heard anything about the Kokanee spawn on Odell this year? We were told that it was late because of the heavy freeze last winter, but who knows? Hoping to make a run down there just to show it to my kids, they have never seen it.

It should be starting at Trapper Creek. I would call ODFW and they sould be able to let you know. The Kokanee from Wickiup are spawning in Brown's Creek already.

Now this a great show, and what a perfect place to watch them, great parking and the viewing is unobstructed - they just amaze me, the way they look and all that color, those big jaws - awesome .....man I love Central Oregon.

I love Central Oregon too troutski!

As a side note... it seems like the Kokanee fishing in Oregon just gets better every year as opposed to some of the other fisheries. In the "natural reproduction" lakes the limit raise to 25 per day has resulted in much bigger fish and a lot more fun for many of us. I can remember when Detroit Res, Wickiup, Odell, Green Peter, and a few others had lots of stunted kokes due to over-population compared to the food source. The culling through angling and bigger limits has really changed things for the better.

Lakes like Paulina, East, and Crescent which are stocked with fingerlings each year and have no natural successful spawning are fine the way they are now. Just some observations from an old Koke fanatic! :twocents:

Would love to make a trip to Trapper Creek this fall to see
the Kokanee spawn!

Here's a request, I've never seen a Kokanee spawn but heard it is really something. If anyone goes and can take pictures please post them, I don't think I'll be able to get out to see it in real life. My friend Dick says the spawn in the Quinn is a sight to behold!

Thanks, Al

Al, I am going to Quinn on Sunday and will make a special trip to a spot I know of on the Deschutes that I can get some great pictures if they are in......What is real cool is the Big Browns that follow them up stream....the Koke's look like mini Pink Salmon and the Browns look like logs. It is a real kick.
