Has anyone been out to Hagg since they stocked it this week? What kind of things have they been hitting on from the bank? I am going to take my boy (7) out there tomorrow. He hasn't caught a trout yet. I'd love to get him into one.
Thanks

Went out today...it's lower than I have ever seen it! All the fish are on the bottom right now. Go with a sliding sinker with about 3' for leader and half a worm. Not biting at all on top with bobbers. I had my fish finder with me and there were some great pockets on the "A" ramp side towards the damn. In fact, there is an old boat ramp turn off right after the damn road...near the bottom of the ramp are some deep holes. Another spot that was holding tons of fish was about 200 feet towards the "A" ramp from the old ramp. Follow the bank from the old ramp and you'll come to a little cove...fish off of the nearest point, casting twards the other point of the entrance to the cove...lots of fish there. I'd stay away from the normal "C" ramp and above areas...no one seemed to have much luck there.

Thanks Clyde, since we were planning on heading straight for the pier area. I have not been where you are talking about but we will scout a bit. My boy seems to like scouting almost as much as fishing. Did you catch anything? What time of day are you talking about?
Thanks
Clyde

Sorry...just got back from a little crabbing adventure with the family. You'll see when you get there...the pier is completely out of water! We stopped after 5 since I didn't want to freeze any and that was enough for dinner. We fished between 8 and noon...that that this will help since your probably either fishing or home by now. Hopefully my input actually helped!

Well I did my best to follow what you said. Hagg is just down way to low. If I had a boat, then maybe. We didn't get any nibbles even. We packed up and went over to the Yamhill river at Locks park. It was much nicer there and less muddy, but hardly any bites. I am done with Hagg for the year. I think maybe we need some cooling and some rain, but maybe I am just not experienced enough to know. Thanks for the tips though.

Hi all, Post number 1
I was at Hagg a couple of weeks ago, now that was before the rains but my son and I did well off the bank just down from the launch. I floated 1/2 a crawler with either powerbait (Chartreus) or a power-egg. The recent plants are spooky though, go light leader material 3 lb max. Early in the morning.

Cliff notes version
Urban lake in San Francisco (Lake Merced) trophy stocked lake. High pressure lake 8 feet tops rod to rod on the bank, cast straight or go home is the motto there. Anyhow, ex-wife (licensed)came along just to watch and read. I had casted out and was bsing with all the guys, mostly regulars, when nature called. Well, nature screamed, and with it being an urban lake there were outhouses within 100 yds and I excused myself forgetting that my drag was set fairly loose. Well as Im walking back I see everybody within 40 feet either side of where I was walking up the bank to re-rig some looked none too happy about it. So what I heard happened was as soon as I was out of sight the rod went crazy and the wife grabbed it and did the best she could, one problem, she knows nothing about drag. She ended running up and down the shore with this thing running line out and crossing everybody. According to the boys, it was a good fish, well anyway it busted off and for the rest of the day I wasn't the most popular guy on that shore. They were talking about it the next week though and by then it was the source of a good chuckle for all.
Sorry that was so long

Fished Hagg today from 8:00am to 1:30. Boated twenty trout to keep three limits. The bite was not red hot. Picked up the fish between ramp "A" and the cove by the dam. The bite did not get going until 10:00am.

Slayer,
Actually I was and if I may I'd like to share a quick story for those who think people just sit at launch ramps for a good laugh. I took my boat out to Hagg for the first time Saturday and I really must have looked like a noob (I am). The last time I backed a bout in was abouut 20 yrs. ago so I knew it was going to be rough but I spent time prepping myself as best I could with information and I even practiced backing the trailer up before going down.
Enough for the preface now the story, I dropped her in the first time and the plug was leaking so I ran up the hill and started backing the truck down to pull her back out to drain her and fix the problem. Well by now a couple fishermen (pros, great rig) are tied off and are aware of my problems so I start to get nervous backing down the ramp. I've got the empty trailer going left, going right, anywhere but where I wanted it to. The more I stressed and got nervous the worse things got. These Gents were ready to head out to fish and one of the guys hopeed out of his boat and spent time trying to get me fixed, a couple of times actually picking up and re-aligning my trailer to get me righted. I originally scheduled a day off during the week because I know about weekend pressure on boat ramps but my scheduled day was really rainy. Anyhow, if you are out there THANK YOU for your help and understanding. I appologize for wasting bandwidth but I wanted to Thanks these Gents again and trust, 10 years down the road when I'm an old Pro, yesterday will not be forgotten, I'll take the time to help someone whos a little green!!!
Sorry so Long!!

Hey Kevin,
I have spent 30 years backing a trailer down to launch and I have finally gotten good at it. Well that all blew away since I bought a camper and have to use the mirrors, left-right, right-left, right-right, no left-right, left-left, you get the idea.
I looked like a dummy at Crane but I was luckier than you cause I had the ramp to myself. :)
Now the real question: How many times can you open a truck door so you can get out to see where the trailer really is before it falls off?

Oh yeah, I forgot, didn't do too much fishing as the intent was just to go out and break in the motor so we were moving too fast to troll but I did take 30 minutes on the electric before we left so I flat trolled a chrome gang of minnows with a needlefish trailer and got 1 small one.
Thanks All,
Kevin
