Thinking of a cast and blast trip out of Le Page in mid October. I Don't think I will have any problems locating a Chucker here and there, but can anyone tell me about the SMB and Channel cats that time of year? I will have a small bass boat so traveling up to the narrows will not be a problem.

It is all private land around LePage . No hunting allowed .
There have been a lot of people arrested there for that . Not a good place to try . There isn't any place to hunt legaly that i know of that is close to LePage Park .

Not as I read it,
Read page 26 of the bird regs under State Refuges. "....includes all land and water within 1/4 mile of the of the John Day River mean high water line from the Columbia Rvr upstream to thirtymile Cr....."

You left out this part:
"Hunting on private lands within this refuge requires landowner permission."
There's a map available at the BLM that shows who owns what property. Less than 5% of the land from the mouth up to Hay Creek (30 miles) is public. Before the Krotge's gave the land to the McCall Administration to form the refuge, my family was allowed to hunt there. Good luck on getting access now. As Shalom warned, if you attempt to coyote it, you will get busted.

Shalom and Bukubass,
Thanks for the information, I was really more interested in a fishing report than any advice on whether or not the land around Lepage is private. I also find it very interesting that Shalom just assumed I did not have permission to hunt the private property in the area when he made his reply.
