How many of you trout fishing Ifishers have been fishing for something other than trout and and hook into a nice one..
I have been on a steelhead fix lately fishing the Middle Fork Willamette and the McKenzie...
I seem to catch allot of nice cutts on the Willie when using a corkie and yarn..
Its a nice bonus when your not expecting it..Some of them have been 16"ers that rip off some line..
Thought there might be some good stories out there..

I've done exactly the opposite. Years and years ago I was fishing for trout on the upper Clackamas with a single egg hook and 4 lb test. Hooked a steelhead. The most exciting 60 seconds of my life.

I've caught some big ones on a bobber and jig when I was fishing for salmon and steelhead.

I know this'll sound like a "fish story," but it really is true....I've even got iFish witnesses to vouch for me.
A few years back, a group of us were fishing for cut throats at the coast. We were taking turns drifting through a hole when, blamo, my rod bent over and line started playing out. Ended up with a chinook jumping about 3 feet in front of me. After I cleaned myself up, the four of us went about devising a strategy for beaching this bad boy without a net. As luck would have it, I'd snagged bottom in the prior hole we'd fished, and in order to get back in the water, I'd just tied a hook on the end of the 8 pound main line. All that did was prolong the agony. After about 20 minutes, the line gave out and he was on his way. That fight was one of the best fishing surprises I've encountered over the years.

I caught a 25lb springer on the coast last year on 8lb maxima while bobber fishing shrimp tails for summers. I think the 10' rod is what helped me out.

ive had alot of accidental steelie catches on the north santiam. but as far as trout go i have hooked some dandy redsides on the dechutes while throwing spinners for summers. but the best has to be the time i was fishing my pond in west salem for bass. its a small (1-2) acres and deepest spot is 14 feet. i have spent almost every summer there catching tons of bass and crappie, but this one evening i was rolling a good size wolly bugger right under the surface and wammm!!!! just like a good bass explodes but it started tail walking and making violent runs, when i landed it i was amazed to see an 18inch cutt!?! how that fish got there i dont know but ive heard it said that blue herons will sometimes pick up eggs at one spot and drop them in another?

We catch a few every year on the snake (Oxbow & Hells Canyon) while using crappie jigs fishng for pan fish. They usally hit just after the jig hits the water. You can always tell it's a trout when that happens. We've got some close to 20", but most are 15 - 16".

When I was a kid, growing up in Tigard, we used to cath a couple trout on the mighty tualatin (sp) river every now and then, even got a silver that was headed to gales creek I guess.

I caught a nice 20" rainbow at Craine Prairie while throwing a spinner bait for bass. What a suprise for me.
