My dependable 2001 Yamaha kicker threw me a curve yesterday when the pull cord didn't want to retract. I haven't dove into the problem myself yet so perhaps it's an easy fix. I suppose there's a spring mechanism that is worn. Anyone out there familiar with this problem? Any help would be appreciated. I'd rather deal with it myself but will haul it to the Inflatable Boat Center in Portland if it's a technical affair.
Thanks in advance.

I say go for it, if it then becomes a problem take it somewhere, seems like it would be like changing one on a lawnmower, but thats just me im an adventurer

Is it a F-8 Model? or 8MSHZ?
These parts breakdowns might help you decide if you want to tackle it:

Thanks GSD. I'm not certain what model I have but I'll check when I get home today. Those illustrations will definitely help.
