Ever since a shop worked on my Honda 225 in July, I've had a slight oil sheen on the water when I put the boat in the water. I've noticed it when on anchor as well. It is very slight, but leaves a noticable sheen.

I've also noted a few drops of oil on the offshore barcket when I leave the engine tilted up. When I take the cowling off I can't find any oil, it looks very clean.

I've checked the oil level and it stays the same. The work done was to remove the lower unit to replace the water pump and do an oil change. I was thinking that they spilled some oil inside the cowling during the oil change, and that perhaps that was the problem. It would seem the oil would have washed away by now. Is this oil sheen normal for a 2005 Honda 225 after an oil change. I did not notice it when I changed the oil?

Off to the shop next week to talk about their warranty. Any information would be helpful before I speak to them.

Look at the tilt cylinders to see if they are leaking around the shaft.

Never had that problem with mine after a oil change. I would check the lower unit drain plug and make sure your not leaking any gear oil. If the filter was changed, that can be difficult to keep clean but I dont see how that would get inside the lower unit. Check the hydro steering fluid level.
Good luck and let us know what you find.

Thanks for the replies. I wanted to let anyone with a Honda 225 to know about service bulletin 40, and that my problem was a leaking low oil pressure switch. Apparantly a few engines left the factory without sealant on the threads. Thank goodness for warranty work as it took some time for the tech to get to the fix.

I had that checked out before this season started. Did you get the Bulletin done for the thermostat housing?

No. What symptoms should I watch for?

Never had any symptoms. Sportscraft recommended to bring it in and they took care of it. At my cost, its not a recall.
