Years ago I used to fish Big Creek for rainbows and cutthroat. I was thinking about giving it a shot again. Is there a particular season that is best for creek fishing or are they in there year round?

David, I don't fish where you are located, but fish are fish no matter where they are...Fall is the best time for Trout.... Salmon, Steelhead and Trout of all species are all in the same family.....all the above fish may use the big rivers to travel, but the majority of them spawn in the small creek and streams.....JMO :twocents:

Keep in mind that Big Creek is closed during the month of September, but after that there should be some cutties in there.

Take into account that trout get stressed in high temps. Some of our creeks run cool year round. Others really heat up by August & Sept.

Whether you catch & release or intend to catch and keep, trout mortaility is much higher if the water temp is over 65. Some of those "trout" are our smolts too. So keeping them healthy and feisty so they can grow is good.

I usually head for shady creeks or the upper elevations to get to cool water.

Some of the water temp dropped in the valley a bit with out sprinkle the other day.

Good luck. I love fishing in the fall too. Ought to really start getting good by the end of September. The cooler water, the fish will eat more and be more active. Yippee!!!
