Has anyone had troubles with fuel feed from a single filter set up to the trolling motor. The big one is the 115 yami, fuel injected and the kicker is the T8. Boat is going back to the dealer today to get fixed but want to know if there is an issue of drawing from the same main tank / fuel filter set up. My previous boat used the same set up but the main motor was a Merc 2 stroke and Honda 9.9 4 stroke, it worked perfectly. This time the kicker won't hardly start and dies as soon as the choke is let off or the fuel from squeezing the ball is gone...apx 10 seconds. Just looking for info out there. It ran for about 5 minutes the first time at the dock then died...pain in the bhind since then. Main motor runs as sweet as they come.

I had the same problem. The problem with mine was due to the fuel line being installed backwards. The ball is meant to suction fuel "from" the gas tank to the kicker, not "from" the kicker to the fuel tank. End result, no fuel to the kicker, wouldn't run very long on what little fuel it could get. Switched the ball around & T8 runs like a charm. Just my :twocents:

Part 2 of the story. I took it in and the mechanic ran on the hose for an hour with no problem and gave me a call to come get my boat. I asked him if he had ran both motors at the same time...Well off to the river we went to test run both. It took about 3 to 5 minutes then the little one died and had fuel in the filter under the cover. Don't know why but in the river it dies, on the hose it runs well. I left it in the capable hands of the dealer. At least I wasn't looking like a fool at his first rodeo. We'll see what the trouble is as he was going to call Yamaha on this one.

I have been looking at buying a kicker and hooking it up to the fuel filter. It appears (I am no expert, nor do I play one on TV) that either motor could suck fuel from the other and eventually suck air when the barb runs dry. The priming bulb has a check valve in it but it has to be positioned vertically for it to work so that could be why the mechanic has success. My bulb sits horizontally so the recommendation was to add a valve or a check valve on each fuel line (or one 3 way valve).

Have run same T8 off the main water fuel separator (filter) Both motors run all day no problems. I rarely run big motor above 1,500rpm while T8 is running but did run big motor at 1,200rpm and T8 at full trottle for 4-hrs straight without a problem about 6 weeks ago.
Big Motor is a 250hp two stroke that burns about 4gals per hour at 1,800rpms and 2.5gals per hour @ 1,200 rpms
I have had the same T8 motor/filter set up on two other boats as well - never a problem. Maybe your fuel filter needs to be replaced if you are having fuel sarvation issues - obvious first step in my book. I use the Raycor Water fuel separtor with the clear bowl on the bottom.
Note: out-going fittings on your separator/filter housing must turned/installed straight down to avoid cavitation problems. Prime bulb should be at low point in fuel line for best results but not requirement as I have run them at the motor and close to separator. My primer bulbs are both mounted horizontal with no additional check valves installed - factor install from Grady-White on current and Motion Marine on previous two boats. Motions prime bulbs where mounted vertical.

Thanks five salt, had this set up on the last boat save different motors, merc and honda kicker, no problem running either or both motors. Could be a electronic/brain problem on T8. Just want it fixed as this is a new never been used boat and motor(s) set up. Too many hogs running in the river to deal with this now. I don't really need the troller in the big C but, soon in Tilamook bay.

kind of a suggestion, but is the fuel water thingie rated high enough in gph to support both at 1x?

I've got the same motors as you Springerman. I haven't had any problems at all. They both feed off a Quicksilver fuel filter/ water separetor. Perhaps the T-8 is plumbed to an inlet port instead of a outlet port on the filter? Good luck, you'll love that T-8
I have the same setup on mine. Both motors draw off the same filter. I have the T8 and a Yamaha 150. Has worked great for the two years I have had it. I occasionally run both motors at the same time when warming up the kicker, and have never had a problem. I'm sure they will get you fixed up.

All connections plumbed correct and new, this was replaced already for a crack at the outlet for the T8. We'll see what the factory sez. May be an electronic problem or the small fuel pump that runs off the cam according to the mechanic. Thanks for all the inputs folks. I just want it to run like the big one, SWEEEEEET.

Maybe/maybe not related to the problem at hand....
I have both engines running off the same outlet from the fuel filter/seperator as well. Installed at the factory.
The fuel filter/seperator has two outlets. I noticed the kicker line had a valve on it, and asked why when I picked up the boat.
They told me that sometimes the main engine can run into problems from air leaks in kicker fuel hoses and other plumbing, and it's there so you can isolate it from the main engine fuel plumbing.
I have never had to shut off the valve when running either engine, but it's nice to know it's there.

Well got the phone call yesterday afternoon and the problem turned out to be a bad carb. Kept flooding the engine as it were. This was replaced from another motor on the to be sold rack and now all is well. Must have been a Sunday Saki carb put together on Monday morn. It's on its way back to Yamaha. Thanks for all the input....I love this board, see ya on the river.

I have the same kicker, hopefully my carb stays functional.
I had fuel starve probs with the T8 when it came off the same filter as the main engine (7.4li MPI Merc). Decided to run another line off the main tank with a smaller anti-siphon valve to it's own fuel filter. Bingo...this solved all my woes! Apparently the main fuel line runs a much heavy duty anti siphon valve off the tank. The T8 did not have enough draw to get enough fuel throuh the other anti siphon. FYI.
