I would have thought that they would stock this lake for the weekend, but apparently that was not the case. There were a BUNCH of 4" trout in the lake harassing the bait to no end, and a few perch to be caught as well. ODFW says that they plan on stocking 500 "trophy" trout in there next Monday. I'll have to keep track of the stocking report to find out if that is true.
Tried the Berkley Gulp worms and maggots, with both doing well. Worms seemed to outfish the maggots. Both are a great value, as you get a bunch of both in the container and they store MUCH longer than live bait will. Good thing, as I don't get out much.

I wish I knew why in the world they plant those little guys. Trying to catch the "trophies" was almost impossible last year with those little buggers nibbling away at whatever you tossed out there. Bass food, maybe? I can't imagine that many actually hold over.

That one baffled me as well, especially planting during the time of year when the lake is so darned warm. That's a shallow lake, and there isn't enough depth to offer a thermal layer cool enough for them. Maybe that's why so many of them were throwing themselves so high in the air like that. Disturbing, for sure.
I found that if I could get my bait to within a few inches of the bottom that I had a better chance of at least catching the larger yellow perch that were resident. I know that there are bass over at Cullaby, but are they at Coffenbury too?

Yep, the bass hang out on the edges. I have never personally caught any, but I had a friend who regularly pulled them out of there. He even had it down to a bit of a science, where he would time his trips based on the moon phase.

Glad to see you got out after some fish Dave..4 inchers are better than skunks..Is that a natural lake or a Res ??? You will have to go for those trophies when thier in..You will have to buy some trout food pellets like they use at the hatchery..They will think its like home...

Don't laugh to hard a number of years ago when I lived in California I knew a guy that actually tied up some flies that looked just like the food pellets they feed in the hatcheries. Amazingly, they actually worked!!!

Yep, the trout food fly basically looks like kitty food.
Then again, a hook wrapped with red thread works too. Especially for 4" trout. I have some experience with micro fish. Lots in fact. You wanna know where they are at, just drop me a note. I've got micro fish dialed in all over the state. The trick is light gear and no barbs. Then its a lot more fun. (course, I'm one of the insane C&R folks)
Nice report Dave. But be careful, mock no fish, lest the fish gods strike you down.
