Anyone ever fish for trout on the Columbia..I have only seen reports of Salmon, Steelhead and Stugeon... You would think that with all the fisherman targeting everything else it could be good..

Harvest trout can be caught right now in the Columbia- especially below the Cowlitz River. A whole lot of them go up the Cowlitz every year starting about this time.

Yes- they are sea-run cutthroat reared by the Cowlitz Fish Hatchery. I umderstand from my buddies who fish for them that they have caught them up to 20inches. A more normal catch though is 12-16inches. They usaually drift worms or sandshrimp tails to catch them in the Cowlitz. They say they have in the past fished in the Columbia downriver a few miles and caught many of them.

I've caught trout around the islands below the John Day dam. I don't remember the method but they are there.
