Boy I love it, we actually have a forum for those of us that love the trout thing. I grew up fishing for trout in So. Cal. and have always loved it. Seems to beat the worries of the salmon/steelhead runs, nets, ocean conditions, etc., mind you I still enjoy that fishery too but for pure relaxation I'll go trout anyday! My total favorite is trolling artificial baits while floating about in a raft, here's some pics of my last trip to Marion a few weeks ago. This is a few years after the B+B burn but the area is recovering nicely, you have to love Ma Nature. The pictures aren't the best because I was backpacking and had a light and cheap digital camera but you'll get the idea.

Hey wind troller,

I've got an inflatable as well, and I've been pondering how I would rig up a trolling setup that would work.

Mind giving up what you use? Would it be something like a mini-diver? And artificial baits...are you trolling a artificial worm or something?

Thanks for the info. I'm itching to get out.

I do a lot of trout fishing here in Calif. From end of Nov through about June is my trout trolling season. Then its on to kokes until Sept. A little deer hunting then onto salmon in the river. Some elk hunting then back to trout. lol

I live in central Calif and have half a dozen large foothill reservoirs within an hours drive. I prefer to target the larger trout in the lakes so I roll a lot of frozen shad and pull grubs. The big trout love grubs. Here, anyting over 3lbs is nice and we catch a fair amount of 4 to 5 lbs fish each winter. I've got one 7lbr at a lake where they stock them that size.

So once fall comes around, I'll be posting on here a lot. I have a lot of pics, just need to figure out the posting part.

I love to get out n my belly boat and throw little flies for the planters in the local lakes in the early spring, but the fall is the time for drifting down the Kenai with flesh flies or beads for the real big ones.

I like to troll the lakes, using standard trolling gear and nitecrawlers, however as the livewell starts to get full then I get out the weird stuff and see what works. I am always game for increasing my "catching" stuff. Just started trolling lures of various types and having fun with them.

It starts with good friends, lots of laughs and throwing down a couple of bucks on first fish, biggest fish and first limit. That what what I like about trout fishing. Its friday nights at the lake, fishing with the wife :flowered:unwinding and planning out the weekend. It all good  as far as I see it.

Tight lines:
And I'm glad we have a trout page now.

For me there is nothing better than fly fishing! I don't care how I do it, but if I catch a legal fish on a fly w/ a fly fishing setup I am a happy guy!

Needlefish rule! A single splitshot and a Needlefish in the spring- Needlefish only on the downrigger in the summer. Sometimes we troll flies in the same manner.

I have absolutely fallen in love with Greenpeter...

We can flyfish from the boat, casting towards the shoreline, just drifting along.

We can jig while we are over schools and enjoy a leisurely lunch.

We can troll and cover large areas of a beautiful lake, avoiding any crowded areas where the kokes are schooled up.

We can dunk garden hackle just for old times sake!

I like it all!

Trout... on the fly of course. East lake in october (brrr) and now that there is water in my favorite eastern OR lake it should be prime again next year. Then there is a little gem around Mt Adams that is a little closer to home that is pretty much left alone by the masses beginning in september.

I love stillwaters for trout!

I've got to say that even though I now have a big boat, the most exciting trout fishing in my memory came from slow trolling a fly or flatfish from a rubber raft.

like wind troller ive grown up doing the same exact thing at marion not to mention all the other hike inns around that neck of the woods but nothing beats marion at sun up with the steam rising off the water and the brookies rolling on the surface! we usually long line small flatfish or crawler, have caught some really big fish out of there!

I to love Green Peter. I like to flatline a small rapala on 6 pound till I find fish. Then I will cast a tasmanian devil or jig a buzz bomb on em.
