How about a poll from you early trout forum readers: What is your favorite species(1 or more) and lake or stream or rivers?
I do bulls on Billy Chinook from December to April, then Macks on Cultus, Crescent, and Odell till its hot and kokanee in between. Not my biggest, but a pic nonetheless.http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/DCP_0003_0003.JPG

For me right now it is Merwin and kokanee. Mid september will see me dusting off the fly rod and chasing trout in a few cascade lakes from central OR to SW WA.

At long last, the trout forum is open.

My drop dead favorite isn't a lake - but the Mckenzie River with fly gear from a drift boat. Once a year in June - gotta just dig those fat nate rainbows.

Lake - its the ugliest most fishless place I've ever been so don't go there - the camp is terrible the water will kill you and its haunted - darnit I forgot already - oh ya its at the end of the worst 12 miles of I've ever seen. Now where did that last Marble go

Love Kokanee fishing. For good sized fish Wickiup has been really good the last few years.

For camping (great family lake) in a beautiful setting, Paulina is hard to beat. It's a great place for hiking too...not that an older duck like myself does much of that anymore. It seems to always be consistently good fishing for kokes, rainbows, and browns.

I've always loved Hebo Lake. Ok, it's just a stocker lake but beautiful and fun none the less. When I lived at the coast I would go up there early in the spring when nobody else was around, pitch a bobber out, lean back against a tree and just sit there. Ahhhhh the memories!

Newberry Crater,

It's a hard choice between East or Paulina Lakes. But the nice thing is that there only a few miles a part in Newberry Crater. East lake with the variety of rainbows, browns and kokanee. Paulina with the record size browns and a good populations of kokanee. This is Gods country and my favorite place to fish and camp.

Out here in Calif I am fortunate to have a year around fishery. I troll for trout in our foothill lakes from Nov thru June then move to kokes until Sept. Then move to salmon in the river until Nov and its back to trout. Trout here are primarly rainbows with an ocassional brown thrown in. The foothill lakes are very fertile and we get a good number of 4 to 5 lb fish each year.

Trillium is the prettiest Lake. Have enjoyed Lost Lake for the best stocked lake for many years. Lost Lake near Elsie at the coast. Like the small lakes with a pontoon and a flyrod!! Heaven!!

Favorite lake fish - kokanee

Favorite lake - How can you have just one?? Some lakes fish better then others, some lakes are more isolated, some more scenic and some have better camping. Personaly speaking, there are several that hold my interest....Crane Prarie, Odell, Hosmer, Miller, Siltcoos, Tenmile and even my local resovoir Green Peter.

I'm starting to create a list in my head of lakes I'd like to visit and/or fish a little more, like....Paulina, Crescent, Wallowa, Wickiup, Cultus, Little Lava, Brownlee, Oxbow and the list just keeps growing and growing.

Oregon has so many wonderful places to explore, all I need is some more time and money.

If you'd like to contribute to my lake exploartion fund, please drop me a PM for contact information, thank you... :help:

have fun,

Gregg

I guess I forgot to mention browns........at Wickiup in the spring and fall, and East in October. The 3 biggest browns I ever got were at Wickiup. 8, 10 and 11 lbs.

Chickahominy shortly after the ice comes off. Usually not very crowded that time of the year.

It has been a few years since I was there but Mann Lake is hands down my favorite. Round Lake is probably my second favorite.

Well last year i would have taken Thief Valley Res. as my first choice for rainbow. Everytime we fished there we could limit out in about 2-3 hours. The smallest one i caught was 11 and the largest was 18 1/2 inches. This year it is a very different story. They drained it last year and the fishing will be poor untill next year, we hope. This year has been slow and not much time to get out on the water. Hopefully that will change.

Wow, someone else thats been there, I still can't believe it. I have spent some wonderful times there, there is a reason that they call it Hidden Lake...that puppy is really hard to locate. The first time I managed to find it I got lost trying to get out.. What a blast from the past. That is one of the most beautiful lakes I think I have ever fished, the fish arn't huge but the location...When the Roady forest is in bloom man what a sight, and the smells...Thanks ValleyBoy  :applause:
