Hi, welcome to Trout Talk!

We have been working hard to make this forum available to you!
This forum is the all new “home” for anglers that love to fish for trout, whether they be rainbow, brown, brook, cutthroat, or kokanee.

Thank you to our sponsor, Berkley, who along with Buzz Ramsey will be involved in providing articles and convey fishing information and fishing techniques for I-fish members.
Please feel welcome to start and reply to topics that interest you!
Fishing hall-of-famer for both The Association of Northwest Steelheaders and The National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame, Buzz, will answer a few questions each month; unfortunately not all – since he owes most of his time to his full time job representing Berkley, Abu Garcia, Fenwick, Spiderwire, Mitchell, Johnson and 7-Strand.

One thing that I want to share with you all, and that I think is a wonderful product is Gulp! If you have any experience with it, I'd love to start a topic on it!

To help you catch more and bigger fish and understand how to properly use Gulp! and PowerBait prepared baits to out-fish lures or even real bait, Buzz Ramsey has written several informative articles (available for viewing here) on how to use these innovative Berkley products.
These are available by clicking here, and will be pinned to the top of the board, at all times!

I truly hope you enjoy this new trout forum, and I can't wait to start talking trout again! I miss trout fishing my old three lakes, and look forward to you inspiring me to do so, again!

Thanks!
Jen

I outfished Bill using gulp worms, when he was using sandshrimp one day. I couldn't believe it!

They are also good threaded on the back of a rooster tail for jack salmon.

Power Bait is awesome on a rooster tail, too!

Congrats to Buzz Ramsey and Jennie on their launch. It will be nice to get info on the trout world. Berkeley couldn't have a better man at his job, than Buzz. He is a nice fellow and a joy to talk with. He knows his stuff.

There is no greater fan of Berkeley power bait fishing than the worm.

Give me a jar of chartreuse glitter power bait, a Zebco reel and rod, a self releasing trout hook and a Tadpole snagless weight and I am in heaven.

I am more of a bass guy then a trout guy but I do fish for trout when no bass are present. Anyhow my question is about power bait on a rooster tail. I have tried it on a rooster tail before and the power bait just seemed too sticky and messy. Just seemed like the lure lost its action after I put it on. I have done the gulp worms on the rooster tail and that seemed to work fine but the power bait just made a mess of the lure. What am I missing here? Did I not put it on right? :help:

Only on the hook. Not covering the entire lure.

JustCallMeDave,

No I do not put it on the entire lure. But when putting it on the hook it gets all over the hackle tail. This does not effect the spin of the blade but it does put the lure out of balance. Do you trim down the hackle tail? Cut them off all together? I have used spinnerbaits for bass since I was knee high to a grasshopper and know the importance of the lure being balanced. So when the hackle tail is all covers with power bait how do you keep the lure in balance?

This is a nice addition to the forum. Thanks to Jen, Berkley and Buzz. I could see this forum develop quite a bit. But one question: Where's Buzz? Other than the articles he's posted, I haven't seen any other posts. Will he be an active facilitator of the forum, interacting with members? Just curious about the vision of the forum.

It's great to have a place to share and learn from one another, Salmon fishing down here is o.k. if you like to catch and release BOOTS and TIRES, but the Trout fishing is rather spectacular.

The best method I've seen is using the Power Bait Ultra (the 4x strength stuff) in the pre-formed nuggets. Pull the rooster skirt up gently and press the nugget onto all 3 prongs of the treble and compact it down a little, leaving the tips of the hook sticking out. then let the skirt back down so that it envelopes the hook and bait. Even after the bait is gone the roostertail seems to hold a lot of the scent. If you're using the regular paste the trick is to not put a very large glob on the hook.

Power bait is very potent on the back of a spinner. The best method is to tie it in a very small baggie. I use the mesh found at fabric stores. A few years ago, I caught ten plus steelhead in less than two hours using power bait tied into a small baggie. The mesh keeps in on the hook (the hook's barb keeps it on the hook). I tie up small baggies and keep them in an empty power bait jar.

I'm pretty new to the astoria area and was wondering where I can find any info on trout fichins in the small lakes near here. I went for a drive in the early winter and saw coffenbury lake was gated off is it still this way or is trout fishing in these small lakes still open. Any replies are greatly appreciated.

Thanks all

Welcome to ifish, I don't fish up in your neck of the woods but you can check the ODFW regs. to find what lakes and streams are open and then you will at least have an idea where to look. Keep checking on this forum some one will answer your post. Happy New Year.

Thanks for the info. I will check out the regs on this one and hope to get back to fishing soon.

Good luck out there and catch one for me while I can't.
