I sure didn't think that I would be using this forum so soon! My hunting and fishing buddy, for well over 20 years, just called to tell me that his chest x-ray yesterday revealed a tumor in one of his lungs, the size of a D-cell battery. He'll be 54 in April. He'll be going in for a biopsy right away and it sounds like, whether or not it's cancerous or not (he's been a fairly heavy smoker for years and just recently quit again . . .), they'll likely radiate it to try to shrink it and then remove it. As far as they can tell right now, it does not look like there is lymph-node involvement and they are thinking the tumor may not be cancerous. Please do say a prayer with me, for my friend, and I will update this post when I hear something. Thanks!! Don
Me and my family will pray for Wayne, you and the families.

Heavenly Father as I come before you here in prayer I want to share with you a need for a fellow beleiver. His name is Wayne a hunting and fishing buddy of Don Becker. Father with a humble heart I ask that you will grant Wayne courage and bravery during this time. Father please bless him with the very best medical care possible, please bring forth the Doctor who will give him the very best treatment available. Father I do not know Wayne personally but it is a blessing to to get to share with you about his need for he is our brother. Father give strength to those who are near and dear to Wayne, so that they will be able to support him and comfort him during this time. Father my sincere hope is that Wayne will be okay.
In Jesus Name Amen!

Short, interim update. Apparently, Wayne's doctor feels, in view of his history of tobacco use, there is a 99% chance the tumor is cancerous. He also feels it has not matasticized (sp?) into his lymph system. Wayne is in today for an MRI and biopsy and I'll share more information as it becomes available. Thanks again for everyone's prayers and concern.

Wayne had a CT scan and biopsy yesterday and goes in for a lung capacity test today . . . 'has been promised some report/result on Friday. Oh, BTW (this has to be weighing heavily on him) my father-in law, who basically taught both of us to hunt and fish, was "taken" some 17 years ago by exactly what Wayne has. And, this past Friday morning (2 am) he got a call from family that his own biological father (with whom he had never really been close) had passed-away from the same thing (later report indicated he actually dies as a result of a heart attack, but, he had also just been diagnosed w/the same tumor Wayne has) - - - - - all three of them: same tumor/basically the same location.
Wayne's wife, who often seems a little "scattered" seems very focussed and handling all of this surprisingly well. I've pretty-much laid-down the law to them that he has to survive this and that he has until the fall to be pretty-much up to par because I have no intention of having to look for a new hunting/fishing partner . . . . hey, we do what we can to help . . . . .

Update! It is cancer . . . but, we knew that. The doctors still believe that it is not into his lymph system. They are scheduling him right away for an intensive 6-week program of chemo and radiation. Chemo to prevent it from spreading and raditation to shrink the tumor preparatory to surgical removal, asap. They tell him it appears that, after this, it will be very operable. We continue our prayers. Don

My prayers are with you Wayne and for you to Don.
Please don't worry at this point and I know it's easier said than done from an outsiders point of view.
God has blessed doctors with skill and knowledge on how to handle cancer. Why God had allowed cancer to happen is only an answer He has and we as a people are not to question God.
My prayers will be for the healing and Don, as I let you know, my bible study on Thursday will also be praying.

'Looks to me like our prayers are working! Wayne's tests show that the cancer has not spread beyond the "D-cell" sized tumor and that, otherwise, his lungs are in exceptionally good condition after so many years of tobacco use. [I told him; "Gee, no reason you shouldn't stop smoking, obviously, you weren't very good at it anyway." Yes, he had stopped some time before this was discovered.] He starts the radiation tomorrow, to reduce the tumor's size preparatory to its eventualy surgical removal. He goes in next Wednesday to begin whatever additional tests are needed prior to beginning the chemo to assure that the cancer does not spread during the other procedures. They've also got him on medication that is making him feel much better both physically and emotionally! Considering that "it ain't over yet" . . . it's sounding pretty darned good!!!!!!! Thanks to all for your genuine concern and prayers!!!!!!!!! Don

Well, we had it a little wrong! Today didn't turn-out to be the beginning of the radiation . . . it was just a consultation (a little disappointing . . . he is veyr anxious to "get on with it" . . . 'not to worry, tho, everything is still very positive . . .). I understand that next week they'll give him simultaneous radiation and chemo . . . they say that's the most effective. Don

'Just a very short update. Wayne is doing well. He has had his first chemo (Monday) and his first bout of nausea, yesterday . . . radiation every weekday. Everyone still believes that this will be very treatable. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers! Don
