...Uhumm...This ain't no @hit!..
So here I am, sitting at work, minding my own business, having a perfectly wonderful time with Autocad, and.... http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Out of the fog, there is Mr. Pilar. He says to me.....Got Halibut? I reply....Ruh? A few minutes later. on my desk there is a complete layout, or plan rather, of the "Hunt for FLAT *******." I of course laugh uncontrollably. The next I know, we (Pilar and I) are headed for the beach at 3:00am. We are on our way to the Chicken Ranch at 5:00am. Quite a ride later, we start hearing what hear like gunshots ahead. It sounds like the shootout at the O.K. corral. Every two or three seconds -P.O.W.!!- My friend looks over to me and says, "we're here." Being the awesome first mate that I am, I of course have all of the rods rigged, so we start fishing as soon as we hit the spot. I drop my line first, for about an hour before it hits the bottom. (530ft.- it seemed like an hour) My line hits the bottom, and I bounce it twice. Doink, Doink, then - Wiggle, Wiggle!!...... Jerk!!.... Whoooohoo!! Fish on!! Pilar hooked up shortly after I boated mine.
It takes us all of about 30 minutes to hook and land two Flat ********. 45lbs. and 40lbs.
And we are on our way home. What a great trip.
I'd rather be lucky than good.

Yes indeed. As soon as I can figure it out I'll post the photo. It seems like the high point of the year. But then I haven't got my birthday fish from Tillamook yet. The Chicken Ranch is at

Lat. N44 28.403' Lon. W124 43.603'

This is about 32 miles SW of Newport on the same heading you follow to the Rockpile. 212 degrees. The bad thing is that you can only go there 5 or 6 days a year. There has to be some flatties in closer to the beach as they have a shallow fishery open all summer in less than 180 ft of water. There is one area that is open in all depths all summer. That is off of the Columbia River from Seaside to Long Beach. Does anyone know the #'s for that one? Wish I could find it as I still have 3 spots left on this years tag. Anyone.. Anyone...Anyone... Flattie sure tastes good. The bend is your friend!!

Well Jen now I do feel like a dipstick. Can't believe this little old file is kicking my butt! Oh well persistance pays off eventually. Like a guy told me in Nachitoches Louisiana, 'Even a blind pig finds an acorn once in a while, else he would starve'

Thanks Ramstrong for the assist, you can net my fish anytime! Any one wanting to see my pic and others go to the Photos thread.

Well, Jen you're right. Not used to worrying about type case and other nagging details. Change f to F and wa la its a fish picture. These two beauties didn't last a week as we ate flattie at every meal. Picture the Monty Python 'Spam' song and you get the idea. Everything we ate had at least a little Halibut in it. I think I'll move on now. Good luck and happy hunting fellow Ifishers wherever you drag your gear. The bend is your friend!
