Let me know if Im out of line for bringing this up on this board.

Hey everybody, here's a little something to get you torqued....It's another tax squeeze with a Second Amendment infringement.
Senate Bill SB-2099 will require us to put on our 2000 1040
federal tax form all guns that you have or own. It may require fingerprints and
a tax of $50 per gun. This bill was introduced on Feb. 24. This bill will become
public
knowledge 30 days after it is voted into law. This is an amendment to the Internal Revenue Act of 1986. This means that the Finance
Committee pass this without the Senate voting on it at all.
The full text of the proposed amendment is on the US Senate home page:http://www.senate.gov/You can find the bill by doing a search by the bill number
(SB-2099).
Please send a copy of this to every gun owner you know to help STOP this bill!! Since when was the IRS responsible for the
registration of handguns, and don't ya just love the phrase "for other
purposes?"

Not honest, neither is govt.. Claim your guns stolen, not for insurance purposes, you no longer have registered guns because somebody stole them. You have to do what you have to do. Whose business is anyway what guns you have, unless you are a convicted felon. I am not saying I will do this, but I will admit it is a option I have considered. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I went and looked at this and believe it pertains to hand guns only (unless I'm missing something?). A couple of ? come to mind.

1. Don't we already have to register our handguns?

2. Assuming the answer to question 1 is "yes", what purpose other than revenue generation does this bill accomplish?

I don't think the republicans in congress will let this go through, however, the way the democrats are going about trying really ticks me off.

Senator Jack Reed, democrat from Rhode Island, is the one submitting the bill. Figures that the east is trying to gouge dollars from the western states again.

This gets me angry as well as most of you who will be reading on this site. But it is a mute point for me since last week while on a canoe trip I lost all my guns when we flipped the boat over, I’m just sick about the whole thing.

Cureless, that may have been a blessing in disguise. Buy guns from your buddies and don't register them..

Huh? The Finance Committee can pass something without the Senate voting on it? I haven't heard of that process before. Usually both the full Senate and the full House of Representatives pass a bill which then must be signed by the President to be effective.

Actually the bill was first proposed/introduced by Democrats. I know people hate the "money-minded" Republicans, but as a sportsman, I truly say I am a Republican no matter how much they seem to cater to big business. Contact the NRA if you really want to know about gun control and Democrats. I am sure it's posted all over their website. Also, what seems to be protecting land by turning it into monuments, etc is actually taking a ton of land that people hunt, fish, recreation, etc and taking that away from the sportsman. Just letting this Democrat-based board know some things.

Fishhead5:

I fish therefore I hunt. Thanks for successfully ******* me off. I looked up the bill on the senate page. Thanks for the address. But I have to agree with Pete in that the third line of the bill states that "Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled". However, that same web page that you sent us to lets you e-mail your senators.......WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR. I am a pretty mellow guy and this kind of thing just makes me tired. The thing to do is transfer your guns to your friends and have them transfered back. Then you can always say that you sold them.

Guns bought from an individual, gun show, or inherited etc... do not need registered. Only guns purchased from a licenced gun dealer are required to be registered. Buy all your guns from non licensed dealer and they dont need registered.

I believe all registered guns are public knowledge, kept at the court house. The smarter bad guys can go look up public record and know which house to knock off at night.

Have no fear, the NRA is very strong and does incredible lobby work. Even a democratic house, senate and president probably couldnt get this to pass. I am not a NRA fan but they are strong. Their leader can part water for Christ sake. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Pete is right on there. Any time a bill is modified, both houses have to vote on it again. The Pres has to to sign it, or it is not a law.

I don't think it will fly, your NRA has plenty of bucks and lobbyists and such.
You gun nuts are special ...
And your Republicans control Congress.

"I fish therefore I hunt" ? NO it doesn't follow. I am obsessed with fishing, I don't hunt. "Kill and release" doesn't work. I don't care much for duck meat don't want to eat deer and elk unless times get real tough. (If you want to throw some venison steaks my way - I could manage http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

Just had to mention that - you can have one without the other. I don't have any guns and doubt if I ever will. I grew up hunting with my Dad, it just didn't stick. I can handle a gun - no problem - just don't have a purpose for them. I have no delusions about "defending" my property or taking on government forces. My brother-in-law was killed at age 20 by his idiot room-mate. Oops that's what guns do.

If any of you are bothered by another's posts, which is inevitable on any open forum such as a BB, please keep your critisism civil here. On another BB it was common to see angry calls in posts to have a member booted. This only inflamed the already tense atmosphere and I don't think that BB is what it used to be. I hope and think it will come back nicely though. I think it better to state your differences in a toned down manner. I know this is challenging. I have a tough time with it myself and am trying to improve my demeanor. If someone is consistently out of line Jen or I will take care of it. Fisheads5 got educated pretty well on here about the "locals own the river" mentality, so that was a good productive thread. This gun topic is a passionate one that affects enough fishers here that we have left it up. However, I can clearly see it has strong potential to go no where but up in smoke. Properly speak your minds soon and then maybe we should halt the seemingly unresolvable guns issue and get back to the fishing subjects. Thanks. - RT
