I fished East Lake over the weekend. Wasn't a hard core fishing trip, much more a of a family weekend with a couple hours of fishing in the morning on Sat and Sunday.

Caught smallish rainbows both mornings on a callibaetis dry in size 14. At about noon seemed to switch over to something black. Some folks were having luck on black ants, I caught another on a black EHC.

Highlight was getting to row my new boat. Fishing from a boat was a blast. The casting deck on the pontoon worked great. I had some trouble with wind, until I rigged an anchor and then no problems. Boat worked so well, I was able to tow a friend in a float tube over to the cliffs. Kinda funny to toss out a tow rope to him. He yelled "hit it" and we did. No time at all to get both of us over there. I think I did more playing on the boat than fishing. But I felt like I needed to get used to it and see what I could do with it. The new toy deserved some focus.

The rental red one is my Dad, the gray one is my new boat, the beautiful wood drift boat is another friend.

The pontoons are from Water Ready. I have to say after borrowing pontoons from other folks for the last 3 summer trips to East Lake, I like these lots better. Way to go Bruce! A mighty fine little boat. I'm looking forward to trying the Clackamas in it in the next couple of weeks.

East Lake was about 20 degrees cooler than anywhere lower. Was strangely warm all night though. You can usually count on East being cold at night and needing warm clothes in the morning. Not this year, instead was hot there too. Hard to leave the lake after a fun weekend and drive home to hot hot pavement everywhere. I'll be trying to escape again soon.

Good report Heather and YES the Water Ready boats are awesome. I used the same type you have for awhile and loved it. Let me know when you are going to the Clack, I'd love to tag along and float it WITH somebody.

 :laugh:Don't know why I found this so funny, but I did. Just remember there is a speed limit on that lake.

East Lake is a great place to float and flyfish.
