Can anyone suggest anyother patterns than Clouser, Decievers and Needlefish/squid type flys? I am going up there next month. Appreciate any help here. Also what would be the minimum rod a 7 wt? I am taking several 8-10 wts. This is for the salt.

I'll be up there next week  !
There's pattern that is highly praised on another forum that is apparently the "go to" fly for fishing the salt in Puget Sound, Neah Bay or Vancouver Island:
Shock and Awe fly (http://www.washingtonflyfishing.com/board/showthread.php?t=26184&highlight=shock+awe)
Personally I suspect anything flashy fished at the right depth will probably work. I'm tying up a bunch of tubes using some holographic X-mas tinsel I bought on sale last winter!

Give me a report when you get back. I will be up there 8/13-17. Good luck and hope the winds don't blow you off the water!

flashy and chartruese or flashy and pink. It doesnt really matter. The shock and awe is an OK pattern up there but i prefer something with bolder colors.

Have a great trip! My wife and I did Tofino a couple summers ago and had a blast with the silvers. What D3 said is all that was needed. What a difference a silver in the salt is compared to the river. An 8 wt was all that was needed, but if you manage to find mr nook a 10 wt would definately come in handy. Let us know how you do.

Skanan49,
I've had good luck up there with herring/anchovie patterns, clousers (red/white, blue/white) and needlefish patterns. These ones will do the trick:

Jay Mohl the owner/head guide at Clayoquot Ventures recommends an intermediate to medium sink rate sinking tip lines and a 7 weight. I felt pretty outgunned with an 8 weight last year. He also recommends small Shrimp and streamer patterns in oranges, pinks and reds with some flash. We met Jay last year at the gas dock and he was a really nice guy. I'd call him in a second if I was looking for a guide.
I'll be up there the same time that you are with a pretty big group of guys for a friends bachelor party. The main group arrives when you are leaving, but I'm going up earlier to do recon and get some R&R. We'll be camped over on Vargas Island in the cove so stop on by. I'll have a 20' Olympic and my friend has a 19' Whaler. We usually try to camp on the east end of the cover.
You're going to love it up there!

There is a great article in the current STS about fly fishing Tofino for silvers.
