I am headed up to Alaska on Saturday expecting to fly fish the Kenai for sockeye. At this point there is literally no run and the limit is down to one fish. I am looking at our alternatives and have found w/ some help the Ninilchik, Deep Creek, and the Anchor that are within driving distance of Soldotna that have some sorts of fish in them (dollies and the odd pink and coho). I have never fished any of these waters and I am in need of help. If you know of any other rivers or streams where we can target...fish...I would love to know of them. Thanks in advance!

Clack, I lived in Clam Gulch and fished those streams for 6 years. Usually it was late in the year after the tourists left. August should see some Silvers in the Anchor, Deep Creek and Ninilchik. These are small streams and easily waded. Most any Coho patterns will work. Kasilof has a late run of Silvers, Sept. If I recall right but they usually shoot up into Tustamena Lake and don't han around long. Should be some sockeye around also in the Kasilof. Dollies were always available. Egg patterns and Flesh flies work.

It is a blast to fish the mouths at incoming tide. The water is usually so shallow at low they can't come in and as the tide goes up waves of fish come blasting through.

It may be a bit early for those streams, I can't remember the timing that well

Good luck!
