I just read the topic of selling a loomis rod for no reason and was wondering whats the difference between a Harrington and a G.Loomis rod as in price, sensetivity, back bone, warrenty, selection, all the stuff you would take into consideration when buying a rod of this caliber.--Fishhead Vic

I use the Harrington/Harnell rods pretty much every time I go fishing. I have had no problem with these rods at all, and I've used them hard.
We were fishing the lower Columbia at the bridge, that day alone we hooked three sea lions, and these rods got wraped around almost everything that was possibly in the way. In fact one of the newer Bantam 1000 reels broke at the rivets that hold the spade in the reel seat with one of the sea lions, and the reel stopped at the first guide up. Anyway these rods are about as tough as they get.
On an everyday rod usage I love the 454 (8'), Its sweet. The 205 is a very good boat rod, and my favorite is the 207 (9'), I use this one for nook bobber fishing. They are all one piece e-glass blanks. The backbone is unreal.
The only down side is that they do get a little heavy compared to the graphite rods after fishing daylight to dark. Also they are not as sensitive.
I like the fact that I don't have to baby the rods, as compared to graphite.
I'm not bashing graphite rods here as I do fish with loomis, and Lami's as well.
It's a matter if your fishing out of a boat trolling, or drift fishing for "that feel" as to what rod is best.
I hope this helps, just my 3 cents.................Bobber Down

Harrington makes the ultimate power rod for bobber fishing, but weight and sensitivity-wise, I think these rods fall short. The tip sections are mostly solid glas making them super tough, but heavy. I'm surprised someone is actually asking about this brand. They went in and out of business in the 80's and I haven't seen them around since. Can I still buy blanks???

The blanks are available in Portland at Mariner Supply on Swan Island. At least they were two years ago. Also talk to Ray Hammer at Nestucca Sporting goods about these blanks, and get his three cents worth.
