Hi,

Just checking to see if everything works and yes I use spinners most of the time .

I've managed to lose a lot of spinners in 30 years! Also have caught a lot of fish.

Chromer -- I'm a cash and carry guy -- time is not on my side!

Use mostly Mepps #5, #4, or #3, in this order. Also have been known to use other brands.

Found what works for me and have stuck with it.

Also use hotshots when fishing from my mini-drifter.

Spinnerman- welcome to a great board and some of the neatest people you'll exchange ideas with.

I fished the Alsea in the early 80's going to college and living in Corvallis. Spent lots of time on the north fork if the river was up and of course the usual spots around 5 rivers and fall creek. Liked it around Cox's cabin too.

Can't beat the Mepps, but if you get tired of paying the $, you should check out MorTac. I started building my own for about 50 cents each and they work great. Put'em together while listening to the news or over morning coffee on a weekend or ??

Troutmyster: Thanks for the welcome! http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Started fishing the Alsea in the early 70's, starting in January, with spinners, just below the town, (a little below the confluence of the North and South Fork), found a spot along the bank that the steelhead traveled and would usually have my limit before 9 a.m.
I used to start on the Nestucca, just above Three Rivers boat landing, (above the corner on the opposite side of the landing, )around the first or second week of Dec. and then move to the Alsea the first of the year.
Then I went to Alaska in the early '80s and used my spinners for nine years on various rivers -- usually the Talketna.
Came back in the early 90's and now live on the Alsea, where I eventually will retire and fish!

The Best to you. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

WELCOME TO THE FORUM! I use spinners exclusively on the Deschutes for summer steelhead.

Welcome to Ifish SM. Looking forward to some occassional tech on spinner fishing. In addition to Mor-Tac, BC Angling Post in the Oregon Shopping Center has a great spinner and spoon component inventory on hand. I bet with yhour experience you probably could build as good or better ones for a lot less money. How do you like the Blue Fox Vibrax spinners? Do you think they attract fish better than the like bladed Mepps? - RT

SpinnerMan:

Welcome to the board. I am new to NW fishing.
Guys like you (RT, JeffHead, Hey_Yall etc.)have been an amazing resource.

What do you use for rod/reel for steelhead/salmon?

RT,

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm mostly here to learn, don't think I know a whole lot, just enough to get an occasional fish in the boat, or on the bank.

As for comparing other spinners to Mepps -- I don't think I've given other spinners enough time to compare, like most fishermen if something strange doesn't work I go back to what I know.

Of course I'm not shy about expressing what I think works! http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Again thanks for the welcome.

Smoky:

Thanks for the welcome. I'llm try to be a resource, but I too am here for the great info provided by the people here on this board -- just think if one of us had all the knowledge here!

My spinning reel is:

Shimano -- AREO 40000

My rod is:

7' fennwick, HookSetter -- medium light.

My line is:

Berkley 12# Extra Limp.

My lure is:

#5 brass bladed Mepps.

I use this for steelhead. When I fish for salmon everything is bigger except the Mepps.

Good luck http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
