Plugging with a fly rod

When I started fishing the Wilson back in the 70's out of a drift boat we would put 12lb mono on our fly rods and a metalic hotshot and plug for Steelies. If was a real kick!My first Steelie like this was 17lbs. Have any of you tried this?

Yes, except that I've used a homemade rod with a flyrod tip and a levelwide butt section. The soft tip makes for great action. I'd like to do it with a real fly rod though. Single action reels make it fun.

The 70's!!! How old are you anyway Rags. What was the fish limit then? I guess you had to make due with what gear you had at the time! Why haven't you tried it since old timer???
