What weight should i purchase in order to fish for big bass, and trout, and maybe even 4-6lb steelhead. I had an old rod that someone slammed in the tailgait and broke. I caught bass, trout, and even Chum Salmon with it. I want to be able to catch alot of different fish with only one stick. Whats a heavy enough rod, yet light enough to have fun with smaller fish too. Don't do a ton of fly fishing, so i'm clueless. The last one was given to me.

A 6-wt is a good general purpose rod that can handle a small steelhead, but I don't think it would be up to landing chum salmon.

6 or 7wt would be my recommendation.

I would agree with the above posts...a 6 weight would be perfect. Small trout wouldn't be any fun and a big steelhead would probably kick your butt in faster water, but everything in between would be a blast!
