I caught my first steelhead in a blizzard. I remember it like yesterday, even though it was 25 years ago ... on the Toutle... the old Toutle with towering cedars and deep green water ... a hole we called "Hollywood" ... I had 3 inches of snow on the brim of my hat ... my reel started singing, my rod was throbbing ... I mean my pole was ... it was outstanding!!! I have great memories of fishing in the snow.

Jennie it was snowing really hard up here on the hill where i think you will be later this week.....after i left work and got closer to home it had already stopped....Rats! Fishing and snow ? I remember a time i took my son Josh with me and i was fishing my favorite spot on the Wilson .......it was just cold when we got there, it started to snow and i was thinking....wow this is cool and Josh was having a good time......i told him i know there is a fish in here somewhere....Josh started whining after there was about three inches on his stocking cap......Fish on!!! tagged it and got the heck out of there and headed for the scale at the little blue store on the way home. Hmmmm......i know i have a poloroid somewhere around here http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

There is nothing more beautiful then snow coming down while you are fishing a small stream. It brings back memories of a trip to Big Creek many years ago. There were only a few fishing and the snow started to come down. It grew heavier and was so beautiful. Then a Kodak moment happened. Across the river, a doe came to the water's edge. We could just see her through the flakes. She walked into the river and started to swim across towards us. As she came by me and up on the bank, she looked right at me. There wasn't a bit of fear in her. It was as if she was saying hello. She went on by all of us and up toward the hatchery. She stopped for a moment and looked over her shoulder towards us and disappeared into the heavy snowfall.
These are the moments that I treasure in my life. As I get older, they make me feel the greatness of life.
Good Fishing

Good take Hawgcatcher! I love it too. I will be doing it tomorrow with Mark and Jennie near Tillamook. I just finished my flocked fir tree camo diguise so I can sneak up on the gin clear water steelhead. Use a pure white sheet with arm and eye holes cut out, then use forest green paint to put a few semi-green branches on the sheet. For that added touch hang some flocked garland off your fishing rod, to make it look like a branch in the wind http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif . Or not. ... I not only love the streamside snowbanked fishing, but also the beautiful snow covered trees to gaze at while driving over the coast range. - RT
