Hey all. I had a question about the britenbush river by detroit lake. I am going camping there this weekend and I am not much of a lake fisherman. I am planning on sneaking away from the lake to try out the river. I was curious of what fly's would be best to try. I am still a novice and haven't figured out how to find that out. You all helped me so much a few months ago with some info on the middle descheutes. I gave a report to try to repay you guy's. I hope it was ok. Anything helps. I was planning on bringing some prince nyphms and some hare's ear nymph. What do you think will those work or what else should I try. I do all my trout fishing on the east side of the mountains and those fly's alway's do well for me. Will they work ther also. Thank's alot everyone for the help. Thanks, Butch.

the brietenbush is heavily stocked throuhg the summer with small trout, up to 12-13".
the formentioned flys will work well, also try some basic attractor patterns on top. such as elk hair caddis, stimulater, royal wolf, etc...
let us know how you do, good luck

to really match the hatch, try a size 16 glo bug. Salmon egg with a flame dot.

Are you kidding with the glo bug or are there really salmon eggs flowing down river?

I always keep a couple in my box. A couple of years ago I went to the crooked river to fish the scuds and caddis hatches. I was fishing a small red indicator when a fish came up and knocked it. I dug out the old glo bug and outfished the entire stretch of guys fishing the hatch combined. Guys would ask what I'm using and when I told them, they told me to (you know what) and sulked off. It wasn't till a literally grabbed a guy by shoulders, told him to watch for himself then gave him his own glow bug to watch him knock them dead. Every stream I've fished in Oregon for trout (and that is quite a few) have been lights out for the glow bug. I've even done pretty well messing aound in still waters with them. Have no idea why they hit it but they clobber it. It is a very little known secret weapon.
