We will traveling to Whitefish, Montana the end of August. I know virtually nothing about the fishing there. Feed me what you know.

i was born and raised in whitefish, but grew up fly fishing, so i have not spent much time fishing flathead lake itself. if you fly fish, all three forks of the flathead river are really easy to fish. just throw an attractor dry out there and the cuthroat will hammer it. flathead lake is more a lake trout show. you can fish it out deep from what i've heard, but the one time i fished it we fished shallow by bigfork and caught a ton of medium sized lake trout on rapalas.

sorry i can't be of more help...i grew up there, but pretty much fished the rivers!

Flathead Lake used to have an abundant population of yellow perch. We got them on worms and it was easy to catch more than you wanted to clean. Good luck.

Yellow perch would be GREAT! Of course, crappie would be my first choice but perch is tied for second (with Bluegill).
