Took the family camping and fishing at Hosmer again this year for the weekend leading into the 4th of July and had another real nice trip. Fishing for chunky brookies was good, particularly in the morning when you could see the takes. The number of Atlantic salmon was noticably down this year but the brookies are plentiful in the channel and upper lake. Like BBQbassin said there was a good thunderstorm on Friday when we got there but after that it was only a little in the afternoons, if at all. I had good success fishing an intermediate sinking "clear camo" line with a small chamois leech and beadhead nymph dropper. Some callibaetis activity and plenty of damsel nymphs on the move and a pretty good "hatch" of recreational boaters during warm part of the day (makes the mornings and evenings much better for fishing).

My fish of the trip though came on the way home when we stopped at the Metolious. It was an incredibly beautiful 17" rainbow with a brick red stripe, heavy spotting and gold coloration. It even launched out of the water 3-4 times like a steelhead. Definitely one of the prettiest fish I've ever caught there. Unfortunately, we had a family communication snafu and couldn't get a picture.
