I am thinking of trying for Coho in the ocean on a fly. I have a #6 outfit with a single-action reel, click drag, and a line with 30' of sinking tip. Is this feasible for 10# Coho? I was thinking of a level 6 foot, 8# leader and a flashy streamer. My 22' dory has plenty of flat deck space for stripping line in. Any advice?

a 6wt will have you undergunned especially with no drag but it would be fun. Fish tide rips around bait or troll(bucktail) until you locate fish. When i fish coho in the ocean i use a pink/white or chartruese/white clouser or just a flashy baitfish. poppers can also be a lot of fun.
I would go with 15# or heavier leader. The ocean fish are not leader shy and i have caught them on up to 40# floro.

I would take a cue from the tropical saltwater fly guys (think Flip Pallete doing billfish). Use a big spread of flashers to tease a school behind the boat, maybe even throw a herring w/o a hook out there to pull one or more in close, then jerk it out of the way and toss your streamer in its place.

Thanks Otolith, that is good advice. Several times I have had Coho follow their hooked (on gear) schoolmates right to the boat.
I'm thinking about using a 10 or 15# leader too, instead of 8.

Ocean Coho is very slow so far this year. Yesterday I trolled gear all morning for single keeper. Most of the dory fleet had similar luck. Fly fishing doesn't make much sense when they are this scarce. Let's hope things improve
