I am running a 2001 Merc 225hp Optimax DFI and getting an engine alarm of four long beeps. The alarm started when I ran low on oil in the main tank. At this point, the engine derated power until I refilled the main tank and topped off the tank under the motor cover until the float in the tank came up to the stop. Now the engine runs at full power but it still sounds the alarm of four long beeps about every two to three minutes. Can I reset the ECM and if so, how? If I need to take it to a dealer to be downloaded, who would you suggest?
Thanks to anyone who has input.

I had that happen on my EFI and I had to top up the engine-mounted reservoir-- it was just a fraction of an inch low. Just open the small reservoir and pour in a few ounces of oil.

The tube connecting the main oil res to the engine res may have a large airbubble. The toptank fills by negative pressure (suction). Try purging it with oil by bulb syringing oil into the tube from the top and pushing the bubble into the main tank. Remove the syringe and pop the top of the tube/cap back into the engine res. Any further beeping should be seen to by your mechanic.
