I have a 73 evinrude would it be better to run premium gas or regular?

If it's still running stock gaskets and is your main power it's probably designed for higher octane. I once had a '73 Evinrude 135 and it had been rebuilt with lower compression so it ran on regular, but originally it required premium.
If it's a kicker my guess would be regular, but you ought to be able to find an owners manual online if you don't have one.

You can also lean out the oil a bit.....oil back in 73 was not as good as today...won't load up as much....
