I mentioned to a few folks I was lookin for a small kicker and now have two. The six horse Johnson I wrote about is comming soon and I will also be given a 5 horse Sea King which I use to own. So who makes Sea King and where might I find parts? When I had it it would never run below 3/4 throttle. Is Sea King made by Johnson or ? Thanks again to all. I really apreciate your help.

I don't know where you can get parts, but if your motor didn't run below mid throttle, it almost certainly had a plugged idle jet. Easy fix, pull the carb apart and wash it down with carb cleaner, and take a fine wire and poke it through any clogged jets. If your gaskets fall apart you can trace their outline on some blank gasket material and try cutting out a new one with an exacto knife. Odds are pretty good that a carb cleanup will get you running. 2-strokes are wonderful things, they run for no apparent reason although sometimes they'll quit for the very same reason.

Yes, I considered a clogged jet. Could be. Could it also be ignition coil or lower end seal? Best to check jets first thing. Thanks

Could be ignition or crankcase seal, but I doubt it... you can check for spark by pulling the plug, and you can check for crankcase leaks by putting some soap on the seal while running, but I'd bet on the carburetor.

My first outboard was a 5hp Sea King 1957; it was given to me by a second cousin back in 1985. He drug it out of his basement where it had sat for more than 5yrs. I cleaned it up and used it for nearly 7yrs before upgrading.
Sea King is a Wards label. Wards contracted with many manufacturers’ like Gales and Chrysler. You need to look at the serial number to tell who made it for Wards. I remember mine started with a GGxxxxxxx. I don't know where you can get parts these days, but maybe this link will help you out.

I've poked around under the cowling of a few old two-strokes and all the Sea Kings I ever saw looked identical to my old Chrysler 9.9 hp. You will likely have to pick the boneyards for parts, but mine ran till it pretty much fell apart from old age and saltwater use. The hardest fix I had was keeping the starter rope recoil working properly.

I had the same problem. Had all the parts replaced on mine last year, haven't had a problem since with the newer material parts.
